This is hardly Mundane or Pointless to those of us involved, but… lovely doper Araminty and I have gotten engaged!
We met through the dope last year. She was in Australia, I was (and am) in California. We bonded by playing online Scrabble and WordSteal. In October of last year she came for a 3-week visit, during which time she did not in fact get axe-murdered, and we got along famously. (Interesting side note: as I was driving to the airport to pick her up for the first time, my car’s transmission fatally broke. So I was able to get her to the airport and then the hotel in 1st gear, but had to get a new car. This minor crisis gave us a nice shared experience to have immediately, and something we were both thinking about other than just “ahhh! do I like this person? Ack!”, which I think was actually a good thing.) So then she headed back to Australia and, after we decided we still liked each other and were still interested, she quit her job, packed up all her stuff (some of which stupid Australia post lost), and moved to California, in March. She then got a job, and we continued to get along great, so… the day before Thanksgiving, on a balcony overlooking the pacific ocean, I popped the question, and she said yes! (Instead of a ring I gave her a gold hummingbird pendant.)

To all you single dopers out there who are looking for love, take hope. I was a Bitter Single Doper ranting about how nice guys finish last, scanning each picture thread for new crush objects, etc., for a LONG time… and now I’ve found love. So you can too!
