Further to the earlier thread: The guy in front of me at airport security this morning had an AK47 in his carry on.
In the news: a guy in B.C. was travelling to Ontario to compete in a gun show there. He had all the papers from the RCMP to travel with the gun. He showed up at the airport, told them he had a gun, with authority from the RCMP to travel with it.
The Air Canada [del]doofus[/del] customer service rep appears to have assumed that if the RCMP have authorised the transport of the gun, the guy must be RCMP. So they had him fill out the form for LEOs to carry a gun on board.
Then the security checkers also screwed up - they asked to see his badge, he told them he didn’t have one, and they still let him take the gun on board, not checked.
The police investigated and no charges will be laid, since the guy did nothing wrong, never claimed to be RCMP, and tried to comply with the rules.
As for Air Canada and the security checkers - well, do you feel safer?
