I was shopping at an Asian supermarket this afternoon when an absolutely beautiful song came over the sound system. I have no idea who the artist was or what language she was singing in (if I had to guess, I’d say Vietnamese or Tagalog, rather than Chinese or Japanese), but both she and the song were reminiscent of this 1970 Eurosong entry:
The melody was very gentle, almost like a lullabye, and the last few bars sounded a little like the ending *"I've been to paradise ... but I've never been to me."*
Written in 4/4 time, the melody went like this:
La, la-la la, la-la la, la-la laaa; la la-la la la, la la-la laaa…
I suspect this isn’t enough, so I’ll see if I can get some notes to go with the rhythm.
If that’s not the specific version you are looking for, there is an INCREDIBLE number of covers of this song by Asian singers. Have fun listening to samples.
Scroll down to the section called “Subsequent versions in languages other than English.” It seems that an alternate version of this song under the title “Love is All” is a very popular wedding song in Japan.
I may do this next week, if I have the time. It may be more difficult than you think, since the English skills of the staff generally leave something to be desired (seriously).
Nice song, but that’s not it. If I had the time or the inclination, I’d go through the thousands of Asian songs on YouTube.
