Another impossible song id thread - Chile edition

I spent a lot of time in Chile during 2013 and 2014. I can recall hearing a song now and then sung by a woman. It was obviously a love song, and the singer really belted out some incredibly powerful tunes that built and built.

Any ideas?

I can just hear the woman sing in my head, but the lyrics are lost to my foggy mind.

Huh. I thought for sure I’d get a response.

My other 2 impossible song ID threads got results.

Spanish? English?

Spanish.

Young singer.

She really belts it out. Like all emotion. Love song, maybe despair?

I can’t remember the lyrics at all.

Rock type, pop type, any traditional (Andean) or maybe tropical rhythm?

I’m assuming if it were Shakira or JLo you’d recognize her as the singer?

I’d say new pop, but very much Latin.

It’s a song I’d hear now and then at a bar, and sometimes from a car.

Francisca had some hits in Chile in 2013 and 2014.

So did Javiera.

Non-Chilean based, youngish…

La oreja de Van Gogh, with one of their recentish hits?

La quinta estación?

Any of these styles at least approach the one by the singer? There are other bands with LODVG and La quinta estación formula (male musicians, female vocalist).

Wild card:

Julieta Venegas

Nope!

It almost sounded like an older song that was recorded new and packed with more punch.

Picture a woman singing, it’s a love song, there’s despair. It builds and builds, then she belts out a powerful verse, like a plea.

What will be very sad (though funny at my expense) is if the song is found, and my description is waaaay off!

Expanding pop definition a bit, two other Chilean to check are Ana Tijoux and Evelyn Cornejo.

Sasha Sokol, Natalia Lafourcade, Andrea Echeverri/Aterciopelados are others.

Going back to pop… Thalia?

Nope. None are even close, which makes me think it’s actually not pop (sorry). I said pop, because it sounded modern, yet also a bit like it could be an old song redone.

It didn’t really have music that I can think of, so much as just a woman with a damn powerful voice.

Honestly, I’m doing a terrible job explaining it. Grrr

Evelyn Cornejo is kind of folksy, which is why I included her.

It may be pop, like a ballad.

OK, did you hear at “young people/typically play top 40 music” bars or at “chill out, alternative music bar”?

The other thing is, there are many women singing love songs.

It was more a ballad than anything. And again, it seemed like something with the weight of an older song made new.

I’d hear it at popular places with a mixed clientele.

I’m going to devote a chunk of brain capacity to working on it today and see if I can get more clues out of the cobwebs.

Ana Gabriel?

Gloria Trevi?

Sasha Sokol and Julieta Venegas have done covers of older songs, but you’ve dismissed them.
