Another intrusive personal question for female Dopers

Hiya. Female Dopers who lost your virginity below the statutory age of consent, may I trouble you for a moment?

Was the guy you lost it to near enough in age to be covered by a “Romeo & Juliet” clause if your state had one?

If not, where do you stand on statutory rape laws?

(Inspired, at least partly, by an email friend of mine who reported that she’d lost it at the age of fourteen with a 28-year-old, just because she “wanted to know what all the fuss was about”. Mildly  from me, tho’ if I’d had the chance at that age, I don’t know that I’d have turned it down.)

Ta. By the way, “Butt out, Malacandra” is a perfectly acceptable response.

I can’t believe I’m posting this. Ugh, please, please, please don’t judge me!

I lost my virginity at the age of fourteen to another fourteen-year-old, so I don’t think that counts. HOWEVER, several months later, I began a relationship with a guy in his twenties who knew exactly how old I was! He was a veterinary student who met me when I volunteered at the SPCA. He was really taken with me, and started spending a lot of time with me. The relationship became sexual pretty fast. At the time, I thought it was really cool to have an adult boyfriend, but now it gives me the creeps. What the hell was he doing with a fifteen-year-old?

I have known a few people in my life who claim that there’s nothing wrong with relationships like that, but I disagree. Girls that age don’t know what they’re doing! They make stupid decisions and idiotic rationalizations without realizing that they will one day regret them. Most teenaged girls aren’t emotionally prepared for a sexual relationship, and don’t realize that there is a major emotional element to sex when you’re a young girl. It’s very difficult for teenaged girls to separate sex from love, and I’ve seen (and experienced) several relationships fall apart because of this.

I’m unclear on the EXACT laws here in Michigan, but I think the age of consent is seventeen. I don’t know. I’m not even sure if most seventeen and eighteen-year-olds are ready to have sex.
