Another "kid gets a hold of parents loaded gun" thread

(time for some ol’ fashioned Recreational Outrage)

I’m not too into guns myself and while there may be a fringe of gun nutters out there I assume the majority of gun owners play it safe with their firearms.

With that out of the way I give you this: Toddler shot by 8 year-old brother.

What in the flyng fuck could this parents excuse be?
“Dakota Junior done know he ain’t suppose ta be in pappy’s room.”
The stupidity burns. With all the gun safes, trigger locks, gun cases, ammo stored seperately, etc. some moron is going to leave a loaded 22 propped up against a wall in a house with kids.
Take away all your guns and your kids. Why? Casue you’re a complete dumb-ass.

Well, if you leave the guns and the kids together long enough, it seems to be a self-resolving issue.

Odds are good that the dad (or whomever’s gun it was) may face criminal charges, as in most places if you have children in the house, you aren’t supposed to leave loaded unlocked weapons laying around.

That’s one badass three-year-old to survive getting shot in the neck.

An 8 year old should have been taught to keep hands off and use proper safety. Too bad his parents (most likely) suck, glad that the kid wasn’t killed.

They left a gun lying around where their kids cound get at it. Of course they suck.

A loaded gun at that. Jesus wept.

I refuse to have a gun in my house because I believe that the likelyhood of me using it for good is mitigated by the chance it might be used for evil.

Kids that age are pretty impulsive. Even if he did know, it still is a bad idea to keep it out in the open like that. Plus, can you teach that kind of control to a three year old? The three year old could very well have come across the gun, too…

Maybe the .22 was for Jesus to use if he stopped by.

Haven’t we done this like a million times already?

So, OP, I guess you start a pit thread every time a kid drowns in a pool? That happens way more than an accidental shooting (by at least an order of magnitude).

If the parents would have PROPERLY taught the 8yr old about gun safety, it wouldn’t have happened either.

Another alternative: Gun safe.

I’m not getting a firearm until I’ve got a gun lock box. Not for my 8 year old, but for my friends who act like 8 year olds.

A pool, at least, has a use beyond “shooting things”. It is odd that there isn’t more being done about pool safety, though.

Please tell me this is a whoosh.

Both pools and guns have recreational uses.

No excuse for leaving a loaded gun lying around in a house with kids, any more than leaving your car unlocked in the driveway with the keys on the dash. If you want to keep it loaded and ready to fire, you lock it in a lockbox or safe.

I don’t have $1000 lying around so I don’t have a safe. If my friends were going through my closets, then I wouldn’t be their friend for much longer, guns or no guns.

You can get a suitable locker for a lot less than that. Examples starting from $140

When I said “gun safe” I meant little metal boxes the size of a shoe box. There are plenty of cheap ones. If you can shell out $600 you can likely afford one of these puppies

That part of my post was a joke.
