First Pickfair and the Brown Derby—now ground zero of L.A. tackiness, Jayne Mansfield’s Pink Palace, has been bought and summarily demolished by some asshat. Even the heart-shaped swimming pool with “I Love You, Jaynie” on the bottom is gone . . . Click on the photo of Jayne on this link for details and photos.
Yeah, but they still have the Angelyne billboard, right?
RIGHT?!?!!
See? Culture is not dead in LA.
Well, the “Hand Car Wash” on Ventura compromised. They didn’t take down the convertible held up by a giant hand; they merely lowered it to meet code.
Good for them. I was always on their side, reasoning that beautifying the SF Valley would involve a lot more than removing one sign.
Where was this mansion located? I confess it doesn’t ring a bell. If it didn’t fall along major bus lines, I may have missed it all these years. (For a long time I was a bus person. Which, as anyone will tell you, is no small feat in Los Angeles.)
As long as the Angelyne billboard on Sunset is still intact, all is not lost.
