elfkin477’s mysterious list reminded me of one I had written a few years ago. (I’m sorry for not providing a link to elfkin477’s thread - still haven’t figured out exactly how to do that, but it’s easily found elsewhere in MPSIMS, titled “The List”.)
Anyways, my list is of other Dopers’ usernames :
Ino
bobkitty
seawitch
EJs Girl
(Can’t read my own handwriting on this one - looks like MandaJObarton)
Tars Tarkas
Zette
Menocchio
litost
Ethilrist
elucidator
Tuckerfan
and goes on for 19 other usernames.
The only clue I have to the possible significance of these names is a thread title I wrote above the list : “When singers sing ‘guitar’”.
I was unable to bring up that thread in a search to see if all those Dopers posted to it. What totally mystifies me is why I would have made that list in the first place. Any ideas?
How many warrants have been sworn out against you for stalking?
I believe those are all the well known Furries on the boards.
Even with an additional 19 names, that can’t possibly be a list of ALL the furries on the SDMB. Why, just in GD, alone, I am constantly running into lots of gored oxen, several trumpeting elephants*, many braying donkeys, a million monkeys at a million typewriters, and any number of badgers, skunks, polecats**, and assorted fuzzy vermin (at least, based on the reported posts I see). This place is overrun with fuzzy critters.
- (They are not very hirsute, but if I left them out, someone would complain.)
**(Other than Lonesome)
Needless to say, I have no idea why williamweigand created his list, but after five and a half hours, I figured someone ought to at least respond to his thread, even if only to make an absurd suggestion.
::Checks list::
Nope, not on it. My secret is still secure.
I think I may have figured it out - and as you read on you’ll probably understand why I suppressed the memory…
First, a little background. Like most people, perhaps, I first became aware of Cecil Adams and The Straight Dope through his newspaper column and the books in which his columns were compiled. Then, in either late 2000 or early 2001, I encountered my first Internet-connected computer, at work. In exploring this, to me, strange new wonder, I eventually found this website. In my ignorance, I thought the SDMB was a group of Cecil’s employees or colleagues, and that you all worked together in a Chicago office building. (I apparently was more focussed on the word “Board”, as in Board of Directors or something, than the phrase “Message Board”.)
I thought, at that time, that the only way to ask a question of Cecil was to send an email. I won’t disclose what my question was back then, but I sent it in an email addressed to Cecil and “Cc-ed” it to “The Straight Dope Message Board”, thinking that if Cecil didn’t want to answer it himself, it could be discussed in those “inter-office memos” I had seen on this website. As you can imagine, that email was returned as undeliverable.
So…getting back to that list…I don’t recall for sure, but I may have been thinking of responding to that thread titled “When singers sing ‘guitar’” and thought I might have to include all of Cecil’s colleagues who had already expressed their opinions in the Cc of an email. Thank Og I didn’t further embarrass myself by sending that email!
