OK, I looked at the data again. Of the 32 people who joined 7/19/2000:
11 never posted. 4 posted over 100 posts. Of those, 2 posted over 1000 posts.
22 people have a last activity date in 2000. Of those, 6 have not been back since the day they joined.
2 have a last activity date in 2001
1 has a last activity date in 2002
2 have a last activity date in 2003 (I thought there were more, but I guess I was wrong)
1 has a last activity date in 2004
1 has a last activity date in 2006
1 has a last activity date in 2008
and 2 are still here in 2011. One of those people is a Charter Member.
Another strange thing I found: Three people (all who have not been here since 2000) have a status as “Registered User” rather than Guest.
“Registered User” means they did not handle the confirmation email and their registrations are still sitting in the security holding queue. Some people sign up, don’t bother with the last step, and that’s the last we ever see of them. 
My join date is 05-24-2000. There were 43 people who joined that day, ranging from LordBean to (Tim).
The vast majority of those folks have no posts. Some have three or less.

That leaves, by my math, 22 users who were flashes in the pan, so to speak, either not posting much or at all, or posting a bit for a week or so and then disappearing. 5 users who stuck around for a year or more, 3 of which (myself included) who are still somewhat active.

1 poster (WCOT©) had 74 posts, but was last active on 3-30-05.
7 posters had 10 posts or less, sticking around for a day or a week or (in one case) 5 months.
17 had 0 posts; 5 of these were Registered Users as defined by TubaDiva.

MY join date was 6/14/1999. (I was a ‘lurker’ for a very long time.) 
As I’ve already said, zuma is the only person that is still posting (as of 10/02/2011) out of 15 or 16 total, that also joined on 6/14/1999.
All of the others were either one time posters, or posted just a few times and then disappeared.
Does that suffice? (It took me a bit of fumbling (sp?) around to finally figure out how to see my ‘member number’. :p)
I have to assume the assignment of “member number” is more or less automatic and is a sequential number. There do appear to be some deleted or “disappeared” numbers along the way which would make your number perhaps a little less than the actual number to have signed up before you did.

It was way back on April 7, 1999. My smugness at being one of the few, the proud, the Class of '99, is now somnewhat diluted with the knowledge that the still-active **Strainger, John Bredin, Chef Troy **and **Soul Frost **were also among the 14 people who joined the same day.
My number is 2058 (forgot the join date already, sometime in 1999). I went up to #2100 and found only one active member – Johnny Angel, who’s posted recently.
Dorfmont joined at the same time and was active in June this year, but has made only 11 posts since 1999. 11 posts in 12 years.
The Ryan was banned in 2004 after 3759 posts. I vaguely remember him.
Globetrotter was last active in June 2010, with 1169 total posts.
ETA: Everyone else who joined that day made just one or two posts, some none.

That leaves 2 of the original 36 as currently active, as we were both logged in yesterday. Of those two, one is primarily a lurker, having posted just 116 times since '03, and me, who still posts regularly.

I joined November 13, 2000. Of the other 17 people that joined that day, only two made it more than a year and none past 2003.
