Not so much an Arab as an A-Rab. Ask any Texan and he’ll be glad to explain the difference.
Farook didn’t really think that through, did he?
“So that guy thinks Muslims are bloodthirsty and violent? Well, I’ll show him!”
But the person I was replying to understood that Persians are not Arabs, so I assumed he/she would know that South Asians are also not Arabs.
What do Arabs have to do with this? Farook was Pakistani-American and also Indo-European.
Tashfeen Malik had lived in Saudi Arabia and was identified in some early reports as a Saudi national.
Reuters reporting the female shooter had pledged allegiance to ISIS.
OK, thanks, that makes sense. After I posted, last night I texted with a buddy of mine who works in IT security at a rental car company. He suggested about the same thing – the police must have a playbook for this kind of thing that includes having people immediately calling up the car rental places, airlines, whatever, and running the name past them. There are only a few big rental companies, so you can check them off the list pretty quick.
I’m a tech guy, so I immediately thought of a technology solution instead of a “get on the phone!” solution.
I would say they looked up the license plate, knew who owned the car and were able to get the info that way. Far quicker then calling/going around. Plus the majority of rental cars I’ve ever seen have some sort of sticker that would say who the rental company is.
I talked to my grandmother last night, who lives about an hour away, and she told me one of my great uncles worked on some of those buildings where it happened.

Actually, the majority of rental cars DON’T have a sticker for identification. They became the target of too many robberies and thefts. Mostly you will see a bar code on either the front or rear window.

Not an Arab. An A-Rab or Ay-Rab. Not a term I like, but I heard it often enough in Texas. Basically anyone from West or South Asia was painted with that brush.
Survivors reported that Farook had a argument at the party and left angrily, and identified him as the shooter. He was the prime suspect from the beginning.
Thanks.
Regards,
Shodan
Did they have to shoot all the other people too?
They didn’t have to shoot anyone. They wanted to.

Of course they do. The police weren’t invented yesterday.

What is the difference?
What is the difference?
See post #288. Sort of like that nut who went out and shot dead the Sikh store owner right after 9/11.

I know exactly what you mean. Hubby and I worked for an oil company for many years and that term replaced ‘towel head’ or ‘rag head’ when they wouldn’t allow the field guys to use those terms anymore.

Reuters is also reporting the female shooter lived in Saudi Arabia for 20 years.

Earlier that day, he posted an article about an Arab anchorwoman who referred to an assailant who stabbed an Israeli soldier as “my hero.”
“Another of Obamas long-lost kids,” Thalasinos wrote. “ALL ANTISEMITES are of THE SAME SPIRIT.”
The post has since been deleted.
In other Facebook posts, Thalasinos expressed doubt about climate change, railed against Obama for making a nuclear deal with Iran and shared several posts from Jewish groups, including the World Zionist Organization.
Mmm. Yes. Well… still, being an asshole shouldn’t be a capital offense.
Here is an argument between the husband and a Jewish guy at work.
Thalasinos said Farook “doesn’t agree that Islam is not a peaceful religion.”
So the shooter was adamant that Islam is a peaceful religion? Well, they should make him the poster child!

Ah thank you. I somehow missed that post when I posted.
According to the link in carnivorousplants’ post, and the the New York Times article linked in that link, the wife “had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State in a Facebook posting”.
It’ll be interesting to see what else comes out in the upcoming days.
So the shooter was adamant that Islam is a peaceful religion? Well, they should make him the poster child!
This Thalasinos guy seems like he was a bit of a nutjob so I would take his version of the discussion with a grain of salt.
But on the other hand, I would not be surprised if Farook really believed that Islam is a peaceful religion. Violent people tend to see themselves as acting in self-defense.
