Curious to see what this guy’s (assuming it was a guy, usually is) story is. I’m assuming “no arrests” means someone got away with it though. Unfortunate.
This happened last night and is suspected to be gang related.
It started with a gangland-style drive-by shooting in some dodgy hood, didn’t it? All smells a bit Capone like. I suspect 13 shot and no deaths wasn’t an error on the shooters’ part. More like a warning.
The wall to wall news coverage of this event is deafening.
Oh wait.
Although it hasn’t been totally ignored it certainly isn’t getting the national coverage of the DC Navy Yard shooting. Although its easy to cry racism as the cause of the apathy I think its more about the fear mongering. They know a workplace or school shooting causes fear, dread and a morbid curiosity in the viewer. Everyone across the country can see themselves at work or in a movie theater. Most won’t connect with people at a night time basketball game in a high crime area of Chicago. I believe they are both equally tragic but the Chicago shooting is a more important story. But it will be covered far less.
Yeah, really going overboard with the coverage on this one…
But hey, we got a good two days of DC stuff until it fell out of the template and just…kinda…vanished. Wonder why that might be?
I believe it is those dinky little 9mm cartridges.
True, although spraying lead in a park and hitting 13 people must mean the shooter/s were unloading a huge amount. It wasn’t a crowded cinema where you just crouch and hit legs; there must’ve been people running, crawling, freezing, crouching etc.
I think this was a planned hit, otherwise you’d expect a few lives to have been lost. The report claims it was ‘a miracle’, I call BS. Also the shooter/s got away clean, which is not usually the case where a crazy is concerned.
Hopefully there’s enough evidence left over to find them and put them in jail. Or if they get away with it then they come to realise how close they were to murdering a 3 year old child. I’m glad no one lost their lives and hope no one has lasting injuries or disabilities. If that’s the case maybe it was actually a miracle.
Well one dude did kick the bucket so…maybe 18 bystanders while the actual target got leaded. Who knows?
The shooters were just lucky as hell nobody in the area had a CC permit or there’d have been a dead suspect a disabled car and far fewer injuries. I guess. Dear god, I think I’m becoming a gun control person. Nah.
It occurs to me that after the Navy attack there will be an effort to ban shotguns.
One of the fellows here in Little Rock had a CC permit and was armed during a restaurant robbery.
He didn’t shoot for fear that when he hit the first guy, the other three would open up on people.
It will be interesting to find out the details about the guy who lost his life. I was in Sicily in 1986 (or thereabouts) and two guys went into a restaurant in Palermo and shot the whole place up, only hitting (and killing) one man. It was during the trials there of Mafiosi heads (there were US military ships just off the coast and US troops marching in the streets everywhere). That was labelled a hit as the victim was a judge. No one else was injured even though the restaurant was bullet-ridden and wrecked.
We only heard about it third-hand so maybe the facts aren’t completely true. Life in Palermo (we were there three months) just went on as normal. Pretty crazy from my POV but the Mafia there controlled so much I don’t doubt it.
An armed society is a polite society.
You have another cite? The one in the OP said 7.62. Hardly a dinky little cartridge.
7.62 mm? That is smaller than 9mm.
I found a 9mm Luger casing at a group shooting, it was a tiny thing compared to a .45 or even a .32.
I did not read what caliber was used. This sort of thing is usually 9mm in my brief experience.
7.62 is a rifle cartridge. 9mm is a pistol cartridge. For comparison the “high power military grade” scary AR15 is a smaller 5.56 mm rifle cartridge.
They fired at them with rifles? That has a respectable load behind it, I warrant.
Just going from the one article which quotes the police, yes it was a rifle. Given the caliber I would guess it was something like an AK47 variant. Although many different rifles use that caliber.
That is not the usual gangland shooting.
Perhaps they obtained an AK47 and wanted to try it out.
It is difficult to hit anything, firing sideways.
My guess, 7.62 Russian, probably AK or SKS. Gangstah Hoopstahs like them AKs.
Anyway, just another day in Chicagoland - nothing to see here…
It’s called an “adverse correlation of forces,” and the guy in LR was wise to hold his peace. Besides, CC isn’t for playing Clint Eastwood/Charles Bronson and stopping random street crime; it’s about self defense.
If the armed robbers “opened up” on the diners, Mr. CC would then be justified in taking action.
