This one doesn’t exclude Tiger, but gives you a handicap for picking him. I heard a similar contest on our local sports radio, and it seemed to make sense.
Here are the rules:
- Pick three golfers to get your best score.
- If you pick Tiger, you incur a 4 stroke penalty.
- All three of your golfers must make the cut, else you are eliminated.
- Lowest total score of your three combined win.
- Tiebreaker Part 1: Total score for all days of the winner.
- Tiebreaker Part 2: Final score of the winner on the last day played.
- If, for any reason, the tournament is shortened (rain, tornadoes, flying pigs), then a par will be used to fill out the scoring.
Example 1: Phil Mickelson, Vijay Singh, Davis Love III. Winner at 277, Final Round at 69.
Mickleson shoots 295, Singh is at 289, but Davis Love III doesn’t make the cut. Doper is eliminated.
Example 2: Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Mike Weir. Winner at 280, Final Round at 70.
Woods shoots 280 (and wins with a 67 on the final round), Mickelson is at 295, Weir shoots 297. Total is 872 + 4 point Eldrick handicap, for a total of 876.
Example 3: Singh, Zach Johnson and Ernie Els. Winner at 280, Final Round at 68.
Singh shoots 289, Johnson shoots second at 287, Ernie Els shoots 300. Group score is also 876.
Doper 3 wins since he tied with Doper 2, but won the second tie-break.
