I am looking for an MMORPG with a free trial but with a difference. What I would like is a game where a friend and I can play and form a team straight away so I don’t have to sit through hours and hours on my own bored.
Any ideas?

In City of Heros, you can form a team straight away.
There may be a free trial invite out there still unclaimed, otherwise you have to pay for the lisence (US$50), but ther first month’s free.
I’ll second City of Heroes - great team play, easy to get into and if you find that one person is playing more than the other (and thus levelling faster) the sidekick/examplar options will mean that you can still play together.
Those of us who pre-orderd City of Villains each get a couple of 14-day free trial invites for City of Heroes. Shoot me an email if you want one of mine.
I hear that the October issue of PC Gamer has 21-day free invites.
On a different note, it looks like Gunz, which is more of an action-shooter than an RPG, might be right up your ally. It’s quick and easy to play, at least, and you can start in pretty fast.
I’m 90% sure I responded here but I think I’ve posted my reply in another thread, forum or even message board.
I was actually given a 14 day CoH trial by somebody else on the board a while back and liked the game, I just didn’t think I would be able to find another 2 trials floating around.
City of Heroes is the first MMORPG that I have ever been seriously tempted by and after a year of wavering I finally purchased it myself a few days ago. And I’m generally enjoying myself; its fun at the low levels because of the number of things you can do with your character. Come up with a cool concept, pick some powers that sound interesting, and toss yourself in for an hour to see if you like them. You can form a team immediately and something I’m doing now is trying to convince a friend to play with me so that we can make two themed characters that pair off each other.
I’ve played City of Hero’s and found it intially stunning. The graphics are very good and the super hero powers well thought out. I quickly grew bored though as it becomes a kill/level grind. That said I have friends who are hooked to it.
If you fancy a space based game try eve-online.com It’s basically a updated version of Elite. You can fly in gangs with your pals and even if your on your own there’s plenty to do be it mining, trading or killing npc’s.
Klintypooh, how you getting on with CoH. I just got a copy myself and will dive in over the next couple of days. Can anyone recommend a decent server, and are there any more European dopers playing CoH?
Here’s a thread you may be interested in, BadBadger.
Most dopers are on Virtue. When you get on, join the CECIL global Channel. There’s usually someone online all the time.
Much appreciated ole bean
Sorry for the multi post. Meant to ask. Are the servers global? I’m UK…
Servers: The EU version of the game is on a different server set than the US, which is on a different server set than the Japanese version et cetera.
I have no clue as to how many dopers are on the EU version, though. Sorry.
