Another movie ID thread

This is actually for a buddy here in Afghanistan with me… he thinks he’s tried everything he can to ID this movie, and I assured him the Teeming Millions would be able to figure it out.
Early 90’s probably. Made in a style similar to every other cheesy action/fighting movie of the era (he specifically mentioned a similarity to Bloodsport). The main theme was a competition where the fighters fought in an octagon-style underground cage fight. On the wall there were various melee weapons (swords, axes, clubs, &c) and accessories like shields and helmets, which were unlocked during the fight. The people running the fights unlocked the weapons via computer as the fight went on.
Sorry, he doesn’t remember actors or anything else. It doesn’t seem like much to go on to me, but I’m not really a huge fan of that type of movie. Any help anyone can offer is appreciated.

20 quatloos on the human!

Probably not the right movie, but based on this detailed description of The Octagon (1980) with Chuck Norris, it might be worth emailing this guy. He seems to know his stuff.

No definitive help on finding the movie title, but I have been able to uncover that the type of battle is called, variously, “Texas Death Match,” and “Lion’s Den.”

I Googled “texas death match, movie” and came up with Death Match from 1994. Could this be it?
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0109576/

This might be it… he said he’d have to try to find out more information about it, because all IMDB has is the movie poster, really. I’m working on it right now, too. Thanks for your help.

ETA: I plan to try the website **Cat Fight **mentioned as soon as I can… I can’t access that site from the work computer here though.
