The Wikipedia article on white sugar says that beet sugar has never been purified using bone char, and only some cane sugar is purified that way.

Yeah, the opening paragraph there is misleading; the refining of beet sugar is mentioned in more detail later.

And some vegans avoid sugar entirely just to be sure.

There is no orthodoxy so orthodox that somebody else can’t out-orthodox it.

I’m glad it makes them happy. Sounds like hard work though.

I don’t know the details but word is our friend has decided to be less strict regarding her veganism. Still a big fan of Stevia, AFAIK; always has a small supply with her in case any restaurant she patronizes doesn’t have it available. Not that other artificial sweeteners aren’t acceptable.

Yes. And I don’t mind carob or stevia. But Lily’s tastes bad to me.
