Another pronunciation question: NPR and "The N.E.E.K.C. Foundation"

I listen to NPR several hours each day. It’s always been ‘Annie E. Casey’ to me.

M-E T-O-O

No, we can’t. Some addresses need them, some don’t.

…and I’ve always hated the way that one NPR announcer, instead of “duh-bull-you, duh-bull-you, duh-bull-you, dot”, says “duh-buh-dull-you, duh-buh-dull-you, duh-buh-dull-you, dot”. that drives me freakin’ crazy!

I’ve alway heard it as “N. E. E. Casey”. Really.

I’ve always assumed some woman with a prominent name beginning with “E” married some one named “Casey”, but she just couldn’t let go of that second “E”…

I’ve wondered why she changed her name, why she didn’t use her first name, what the initials “N. E.” stood for.

I’ve wondered if “N. E. E. Casey” was her child, and if all her children were “__ __ E. Casey”'s.

I’ve wondered all this while driving to and from with too little caffeine or too little patience.

No wonder I drive under pick-up trucks. Now I’ll do it listening to see if I hear “Annie” or “E. E.”.

OK, it’s an old thread, but I just thought I’d bump it because apparently someone actually received a grant from the “NEEKC Foundation.”

Update to this thread: for a couple months now, they’ve been pronouncing the Annie. E. Casey. Foundation. Very. carefully. Maybe they read this thread now that it’s indexed by Google

Same here. It’s always sounded like Annie E. Casey. I always thought it was a tough name to enunciate well, but I understood it.
ETA public radio zombies!

I was wondering if it was the “Annie E Casey Foundation” or the “Ann E Casey Foundation”.

And I think lately I’ve heard them say that the foundation’s website is at AECF.ORG.

Speaking of NPR, what’s Cloudy O’Sanchez up to nowadays?

Confirming, it is Annie E. Casey, and the website for the foundation is www.aecf.org

Was that really the complaint? Because The syllabic stress and rhythm is still completely different, even if the first syllable of Annie is pronounced like an N. NEEKC is “en-ee-ee-kay-SEE”, while Annie E. Casey is “EN-ee ee-KAY-see” or “EN-ee EE KAY-see.”

I didn’t listen to NPR back then, (sacrilege, I know!) so I have no idea what the guy sounded like. Is there a clip on the website or something?

I never pay too much attention, but I think the guy still says it, and my memory seems to recall it as sounding something like, “Anne E. E. Casey” but if I took a moment to think about what he was really saying I think I could have gotten it without reading this thread.

I never had trouble with “Annie E. Casey”, but I was somewhat confused by “Corn Fairy International” back when they were a sponsor.

Annie E. Casey was the mother of the founder of UPS.
