Another 'registered trade mark' question.

I’m sitting here munching on some chips, and notice that on the bag it say’s “LAY’S (R in a circle) Bistro Gourmet”. I’ve seen this style on other products.
Does that mean that only the ‘LAY’S’ part is registered, but not the ‘Bistro Gourmet’ part? Could I legally market “MANGEORGE’S (R in a circle) Bistro Gourmet” potato chips?
Silly question, I know, but I was dying to post on the new boards.
BTW; the chips ain’t bad at all.
Peace,

No, it means that the word “Lay’s” by itself is also a trademark. That’s in addition to the whole name.

Only if you wanted a nasty letter from a trademark lawyer. Followed by a lawsuit if you failed to desist.

Cease and desist.

At least, that’s what the letter I got said.

Well then. I guess it’s going to have to be “mangeorge’s (R in a circle) Cafe Gourmand” potato chips.
Peace,
