Is it my imagination, or have the Kinks never been featured on the cover of Rolling Stone?
Amazingly enough, no. Rolling Stone has put the Incredible Hulk, Tricia Nixon, Jenny McCarthy, Bill Clinton, David Letterman, E.T., Beavis & Butthead (3 times!), and the naked asses of John, Jim, and Jennifer on its cover, but never the Kinks. The closest they’ve ever come is Ray Davies’ ex-wife, Chrissie Hynde.
The Kinks have always displayed strength and originality in their music and are not known to sway to the trendy bullshit of the times, so of course they have no business being on the cover of Rolling Stone.
