Dr. Hook - Did they ever make it?

I just listened to Dr. Hook/Shell Silverstein’s great song, ‘Cover of the Rolling Stone’ and I wondered… did they actually ever get on the cover of Rolling Stone?

Several sources like this entertainment calendar claim they did:

There’s a date given there (March 29, 1973) should somebody wish to attempt to dig up a picture of the issue.

Google Images search sent me here . Scroll down.

In fact, here you go:

“What’s-Their-Names Make the Cover”

Thanks. Somehow Google just kept taking me to pages that showed their lyrics… I mean, you type in things like “Dr. Hook Rolling Stone” and… well… you can see how that would do it.

As rjk said you have to search on images.

Any evidence showing that they bought five copies for their mothers?

As a publicity stunt they all went to the office of RS and
purchased five copies apiece. It made the evening news in
Fresno, California. I will always remember that story as an
example of “a slow news day.”
