They're gonna buy 10 copies for their mothers!

It’s finally happened - Rush will finally get on the cover of Rolling Stone.

I realize a lot of Dopers aren’t fans of theirs. That’s OK, folks.

Take off, eh!

Why is this thread title referring to Rush? That line is from Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show. Well, twice as many copies as in the song but still.

Hoser!

What…when did Limbaugh cut a record!!!

Oh.

Nevermind…

Too bad Rolling Stone is pretty much irrelevant nowadays.

So are the Rolling Stones–WHO SAID THAT?

Buried in that song is the line “I’m gonna buy 10 copies for my mother”. It’s there.

I still think it’s cool.

About time. They have to be the longest-lived, best-known, best-selling rock band ever to go this long without being on the cover of RS. I can’t think of another that would even be close.

The thread title is referring to a band that finally got on the cover of Rolling Stone, cleverly quoting a song about a band that finally got on the cover of Rolling Stone. Why is this confusing to you?

Way back when he was just getting started, before he was syndicated, Rush (Limbaugh) worked for KFBK radio here in Sacramento. One year there was a ‘Celebrity Christmas Album’ featuring a number of local radio and TV personalities. Rush sang Angels We Have Heard On High. We have a cassette copy around here somewhere.

What makes them irrelevant? Their circulation?

At least one of their writers made them pretty relevant fairly recently.

Also, the line in the song is “Gonna buy 5 copies for my mother”. Elfkin477 correctly specified 10 copies as being twice the amount mentioned in the song.

Ten bucks is ten bucks.

It was five copies.

That…may be the scariest thing I have ever heard of.

Nuke it from orbit…it’s the only way to be sure. :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s like the song that never ends…

Story published online.

I am waiting with bated breath to hear what is relevant.

FWIW, I got it immediately and don’t care if you did double the number of copies, it was a cute title and totally appropo. Heck, as long as they waited for this recognition, they should buy 20 for their mothers! And I’m not even a fan.
