Another School Shooting [Stoneman Douglas] (2/14/2018)

Dude, this sentence,
“this liberal, who’s about socialize…uh, uh…pause…the government taking over, and running your companies”
is, by any reasonable understanding of the English language, not the same thing as,
“I am a socialist”.

This sentence,
“You know what? Yeah, I ki…uh, uh…pause…strangled her and left her for the buzzards.”
is, by definition, an admission of murder*.

*I’m giving you the benefit of there being;
no legally extenuating circumstances,
no temporary insanity,
no other legal definitions for the unlawful taking of another’s life, kill someone, that’s murder,
nothing that any SDMBer could possibly hang their hat on that would make Starving Artist’s “See, I told you that guy was a murderer.” possibly wrong.

That you don’t see, that these two examples are fundamentally different, is why you’re stupid.
I’ve wasted far too much time beating my head against the wall of your inability to honestly admit when you’re wrong.
(I’ve at least one clear memory of you accepting, after multiple cites, a position you’d taken was at odds with reality . . . only to watch you go back to your original, wrong, position within HOURS!)

I was warned early on that this was who you are, I gave you the benefit of the doubt, I now give that same warning to anyone that thinks you’re worth discussing things with.

You’ll get nothing more from me!
You lose!
Good day, sir!

CMC fnord!

No, you can’t. It’s just giving the dreary old bigot the attention he craves. Ignore the fucker and he might just practise what he claims he wants in terms of a return to the 50s, and disappear off the internet.

What confuses me is how does electing an immature president help make the country more adult?

Cuz he’s not a liberal. Duh.

Right. Of course.

The greatest increase in crime rates in U.S. history happened in the mid 1800s. I wonder what Starving Artist’s explanation for that is.

(One actual reason, by the way, was a massive increase in affordable, effective guns.)

Isn’t it obvious . . . time traveling hippies from the 2800s! :smack:

CMC fnord!

I see the fnords!

I smell a movie franchise! Get me Michael Bay!

You also said a bunch of other things, including the following:

All those claims, and several others that you’ve made in this thread, are highly questionable, and that’s why people have been questioning them. Your response strategy, as usual, has been a goalpost-shifting act where you ignore most of the dumb unsupported things you originally said and pretend that what you’re being attacked for is a single more specific statement that you believe, rightly or wrongly, will be easier for you to defend.

Nonetheless, here’s hoping you don’t in fact have the flu, flu sucks.

When right wingers use words like “adult” or “moral”, what they actually mean is “psychopathic, tyrannical, sadistic, bigoted and corrupt”.

“Right wing” and “evil” have always effectively been synonyms, right back to the the origin of the term when it meant somebody who supported the aristocracy and monarchy in France.

I can’t be the only one who finds the idea of Trump representing a return to decency and proper comportment somewhat odd, can I?

That was kind of my question too. I mean sure I can understand somebody looking at the past with rose coloured glasses. But how can anybody see Trump as the way there. How does having an immature president help the USA get there (of course there is no there to get to but that’s a whole otjet delusion)?

Such pining was his excuse for supporting the torturer Bush as well, and I was just as puzzled then. Apparently a society that invades countries under false pretenses then kidnaps and tortures their citizens is a polite society, to some.

Some people will vote for literally anything as long as they have an (R) after their name.

To be fair, that is also likely true of many of us on the (D) side. I would have been really bummed had Bernie won the nomination, but there’s no question that I would have voted for him in November.

He also admitted that his view of the past is rosy–compared to his view of today. But isn’t that the whole point? Thinking those days were better honors the society of the time and its ills. I laid out what those ills are. The twerp freaked and, as you said:

I realize that cmc has the right strategy in dealing with that particular poster.

Consistent mockery, snarky disdain, and borderline taunting?

DNFSA right?

No it doesn’t. You are 100% wrong. There is absolutely nothing that says one can’t express admiration for certain qualities of a previous time without also dragging its ill along for the ride.

Besides which, what I want isn’t a return to those days. What I want is an end to the idiotic things that are going on today that are a result of having abandoned the good with the bad since those days.

And what tactic would you suggest for a poster who calls you a racist and then says he never called you a racist? And what tactic would you suggest regarding a poster who’s an outright bald-faced liar, who makes wild and serious prejudicial claims without a shred of evidence to back them up, and then not only has the gall to ask you to point to his lies but disappears once you do, except to show up a day later and snipe at you to his political compadres?
