ISTM that if anything’s going to warrant suspicion of possible commission of a crime by this person, it would be the undisputed fact that he fatally stabbed somebody in the absence of witnesses. Evidence doesn’t really get much more potentially incriminating than that.

This reminded me of a case I read somewhere.
A business man owes money to a small-time crook, so he suggests that the crook should break into his house and kill the businessman’s wife like it was a botched burglary.
A businessman would then collect the insurance money, pay his debt and some extra. The crook accepts and one night he climbs through the window carrying a gun.
The moment he steps in he gets a bullet through his head.
I have no doubt that Starving Artist would’ve declared that self-defense in a heartbeat.

You know, for someone who claims to believe in good old fashioned values, Starving Artist sure does know a lot about prostitutes.

As far as banning semi-autos, fine. I have one, a semi-auto .22 rifle with a tube magazine under the barrel. If they are banned, that’s just the breaks.

This is the problem with calling for more conservative sexual standards: the way they were enforced was by literally throwing away people–by kicking pregnant daughters out onto the street as examples to others, by letting rape go unpunished because girls couldn’t risk anyone finding out it happened, by condemning girls and women who didn’t have men to protect them, vigilante style, to constant vulnerability to abuse and attack, by minimizing child sexual abuse because it was too scandalous to believe and too likely to ruin the life of the victim if their soiled status became widely known, etc. etc.
There are real advantages to a more sexually conservative culture. There are lots of disadvantages as well. But I think it’s dishonest to pretend that the sexually conservative culture of the 1950s wasn’t paid for by the utter destruction and lifetime humiliation of girls and women who were labeled early as sluts or whores–be that because they transgressed, or were the victims of predatory men or even just unfounded rumor based on class, appearance, or just particular social dynamics. Those girls became the object lessons that kept the rest in line.
