Poly, yes, but he’s never quite spoken to me. I find that Turtledove and, more closely, some of the books of Joel Roserberg really do it for me.
Have you read his “Case of the Toxic Spell Dump”? First sci-fi/fantasy book I’ve read (and probably the only one I’ve read, come to think of it) with an Orthodox Jewish protaganist. (The Ayatollah Khomeni is in the book too)

He also made an appearance in “The Center Cannot Hold” - IIRC he first met Sylvia Enos when he was hired by her publisher to help her write her book.
I love that book. One of my favorite parts is when a vampire hamster(referred to as a vampster), is used to clean the blood from the protaginist’s torn trouser’s.
Maybe if we had vampsters on the SDMB they could suck energy from other sites and this board would really run quickly!

The vampsters were cute. But I liked the ‘medvamp’ infestation better.
