While I was in Japan in Spring/Summer of 1996, I heard a peppy little (English) ditty on the radio, and it went a little something like this:
“Beach baby, beach baby,
give me your hand,
give me something that I can remember.”
Now, you’re all thinking Beach Baby by First Class, right? Well, that’s not it. The version I heard is obviously a remake. The version I heard in Japan was fun and light and had sort-of a dancehouse vibe; the First Class version is rather, uh, for lack of a better choice of words, overwrought. Heavy instrumentation, and it has a sort-of nostalgic feel.
So can anybody name a band that did a fun remake of Beach Baby and released it in Japan?
