Another way for pop-ups to screw ya?

A couple of times now, when I went to close a pop-up window by hitting the X button at the top right, my browser shut down!

I wasn’t paying very close attention when it happened. Was the pop-up killing my browser because I closed the window? Or is the browser puking for unrelated reasons (it certainly does that from time to time, too.)

Seems like a strange strategy if it’s deliberate. It might make one think twice before closing down a pop-up window, I guess.

Er, uh, yeah, technical stuff–Netscape Communicator 4.7, java off, javascript on.

This may be the answer to your problem, but I’m not sure:

Some times the ad itself looks like a window, but of course that ad is only an image inside a window. So, what you see in the corner is the X from the image, which, when clicked links you to the advertiser’s site. You also see the real X, so be careful you click on the right one.
