Czarcasm talked about not accepting woo in medicine in favor of science. I gave my reply. Why is his post appropriate and mine not? And also, very unprofessional for a mod to talk about someone’s opinion as “crap”. It’s not like I’m defending flat Earth or 9/11 denial. In fact, I think maybe there is something revealed here. Czarcasm can take a stand that alternative woo medicine is not OK but science-based medicine is. His opinion and that’s OK Someone else says maybe the line between the two is not as clear as many make out and THAT is mod-note-worthy and THAT opinion is called crap.
If What_Exit wants to say hey guys (Czarcasm & Saint Cad) let’s get back on track with what happened in the original thread and leave personal opinions out then OK, not a problem. But to make such diametrically opposed modding on two (IMO) similar posts then that is just not right and not professional. And yes, I know mods are technically amateurs.
So what is it What_Exit, Czarcasm’s post is appropriate for that thread and mine wasn’t - what’s the difference to make it so. Or is it that Czarcasm holds a “correct” opinion and I hold a “crappy” one?
You know, we’re human. We don’t always phrase everything exactly right out of the gate. I often go back and edit my mod notes after a beat or two to think them through. When I logged on this morning, I could see that @What_Exit was having a hell of a time with many flags flying and trocks running amok. Maybe cut him some slack.
Your rant in the Aspenglow modding thread was entirely inappropriate for that thread and that forum. I would have moderated you solely for that. The issue had been resolved to the satisfaction of the OP, and there was no reason whatsoever for you to rant in that thread. Be mindful of where you’re posting, please.
But that was not the note. If I were off-topic then so was Czarcasm. But the takeaway I got from What_Exit’s note was that I was being noted because of his disagreement with my opinion and in his words my opinion was crap which was completely non-professional.
If the rule on this board is that professing modern medicine is 100% science-based and not empirical while any deviation from that dogma and/or advocacy for alternative medicine including traditional Chinese is not allowed and THAT is the reason that
a) I was modded and not not Czarcasm
b) Why I received a note for saying what I did.
Then that is what What_Exit should have written.
Third, I did not go on a rant (trust me I could have). I pointed out
c) I have had success with acupuncture despite no scientific basis
d) There are examples in science-based medicine that turned out ultimately to have no foundation.
I would think that a mod would have a filter to not characterize what someone wrote as “crap”. Maybe if it were a disproven CT I would see it, but I wrote
I have had success with acupuncture and then admit there is no scientific basis for it.
Examples of accepted medicine that now we accepted have no scientific basis and how two of them received Nobel Prizes
I did NOT claim the Earth was flat or burning jet fuel cannot melt steel or that the Holocaust never existed so what did I say that was “crap”.
Or maybe mods shouldn’t leap to calling people’s opinions crap just because they are having a rough day.
Or maybe What_Exit should come in here and say, “Hey, I shouldn’t have called your personal experiences ‘crap’”
There is the reality that you used “crap” to describe elements of my post. If you meant it for both Czarcasm and me then replying only to me made it looked like you singled me out.
Do you think using “crap” in that situation replying to my post was professional and appropriate?
@What_Exit isn’t doing this professionally, so holding him to professional standards isn’t appropriate. This is probably a good time to be thick-skinned.
I said if I had modded you, that’s how I would have handled it.
Then your remedy was to flag their post, not respond in the thread – which you should by now know is not allowed. I doubt What_Exit even saw what Czarcasm had posted, because it wasn’t flagged. We deal with what’s in front of us, not review the whole thread to see who may have overstepped.
Seriously, this is good advice: Learn to let some things go.
I did not think it off-topic at the time. My point was IF my post were off-topic according to What_Exit then so was Czarcasm’s so his note should have been directed to both of us … which was done eventually. After the mod-note was changed, I was satisfied.
It’s the mods defending the original note that is keeping this thread going. In fact, once that mod note was changed I have no issues EXCEPT with What_Exit characterizing my opinions as crap originally. I feel it was inappropriate for a mod to say in their official mod capacity but it seems that Aspenglow & What_Exit want to defend that that is how mods talk to posters. LHoD is not defending it but he is condoning it. That (for me) is the only issue now.
