As per the Hollywood Reporter, it looks like Anthony Hopkins will be playing the role of Alfred Hitchcock in the film Alfred Hitchcock And The Making Of Psycho.
Helen Mirren might play the role of Hitch’s wife.
Sounds like an interesting concept, and great cast, to me!
He looks nothing like Hitchcock. Nobody does…Hitchcock was totally weird looking and unique. For a more obscure real-life figure, I wouldn’t care, but Hitchcock’s visual presence was so distinctive that I can’t see Hopkins pulling it off!
I think Ian McNeice (seen there as Winston Churchill) could pull it off the role visually, but I don’t know if he’s got the acting chops to sell the material emotionally. I’ve liked him in the handful of light comedic roles I’ve seen him in, but he hasn’t ever done anything that blew me away.
I’ve read the book on which this movie is to be based. It sounds like a hopeless project that will be almost entirely uninteresting to all but a handful of viewers. Unless they add in explosions and helicopter-chase scenes, of course.
Eh, I could see Paul Giamatti pulling it off, if he porked up some. He close enough visually, he’s a good enough actor, and I think he’s got the tools to do the “character” work.
Three or four months ago, a local station started airing an old show at late-night called “Alfred Hitchcock Presents” which is kind of like a Twilight Zone style show, but there are a lot of episodes that are humorous and light-hearted, not dark or frightening.
Alfred Hitchcock himself does the opening and closing of each episode, and always goes for a laugh; I had no idea that he was such a ham. I am really enjoying these old shows, and am a bit surprised that I had never heard of the series before.
He made a cameo in most of his films, as well as in one episode of AHP! The best AHP episode can compete with the best TZ episodes, but both series had their share of duds.
I have no doubt that Sir Philip Anthony Hopkins will do justice to his Hitch role. I wonder who they’ll have play Janet Leigh’s role.
