Anti-gay republican gets DUI after leaving gay nightclub

I imagine there are quite a few of the ‘Women are the lust-less gatekeepers’ variety.

This letter to the edito, republished in The Stranger blog, fits this theme quite nicely. This former soldier’s main fear regarding repealing Don’t Ask Don’t Tell is that it will ‘turn’ soldiers gay.

Holy denial.

From the LA Times:

" In 2005, Ashburn, like all but one other Republican in the Senate, voted against a bill that would have allowed same-sex marriage in California. The bill was later vetoed by the governor.

Ashburn also voted no, along with most of his GOP colleagues, on legislation passed last year that designated May 22 of each year as Harvey Milk Day, in honor of the slain gay-rights leader.

“It is unfortunate he helped spread the bigotry that forced him to stay in the closet,” said Geoff Kors, executive director of Equality California, a group supporting gay marriage. “We hope he now takes this opportunity to educate people in his district and throughout the state that his sexual orientation is irrelevant.”

Ashburn said his votes “reflect the wishes of the people in my district.”

The senator announced months ago that he would not seek reelection this year. He had been under fire from conservative leaders in his district for voting with Democrats a year ago to approve tax increases." (Bolding mine)

Notice that this hypocritical asshole can grow a spine and vote against his party for tax increases without breaking a sweat, but regarding Gay issues, godforbid - no.

It is amazing that this kind of bullshit continues to happen in the Republican Party and it seems like a couple time a year, some fag-hating Pubbie is caught with his pants down near some Gay bar or cruising area.

Now if only we could get a photo of Palin as she French kisses Rosie O’Donnell in a Lesbian bar…

I understand what you’re saying, but please, reconsider the following quote:

:eek::eek::eek:

Won’t someone think of the children???

Gulp!

Screw the kids, mind the adults in here.

BAAAARFFF

More like, they feel that everyone is subject to be tempted by “sexual perversion” of which homosexuality is but one flavor of many, and that once you try something other than plain vanilla that makes Mr. Happy feel good, you’ll keep going back for more and “harder” stuff. Add to this that in the specific case of homosexuality it is (a) explicitly condemned by the predominant religion’s scripture; and (b) relatively easy to consummate due to involving consenting adult humans; this makes them see its gradual mainstreaming as a more immediate threat (which is also why they’ll raise false parallels between legitimizing gay couples and doing so for poligamy, bestiality and pedophilia).

(Emphasis added)
So, you’re saying that there are anti-gay people who think that everyone is tempted by homosexual urges?

I think this it it, exactly. While I can easily accept that some small experimentation might happen with easy, wide-spread acceptance of homosexuality that wouldn’t under more rigid conditions, it’s impossible to imagine “turning” gay just because you get an offer.

And I suspect this is the root of the “panic and fear” the letter writer admits to. If he’s propositioned by someone to do something he has no interest in, he can just say, “No, thanks; not my thing.” He knows what he likes and what he doesn’t, after all. Panic and fear arise, I imagine, when part of you is saying, “Sounds good,” and part of you is saying, “No! Wrong! Sinful!”

What makes this fear worse is the idea that you can become gay. As in, this guy could be definitely attracted to women, and usually only women, but have had a few stray thoughts about men. One of the best things my psychiatrist did when I was going through HOCD was to reassure me that a single thought did not a sexuality make. Once I wasn’t scared of those thoughts, I stopped having them.

Back to the guy: it could also not be him at all. It could be a son or just someone he knew and cared about. He believed that person was straight. And, when the guy experimented, that person discovered he was gay. And now, our writer thinks that, although he personally didn’t have to worry about it, if he’d kept his son (or whoever) away from gay people (or at least kept them quiet about their orientation), he wouldn’t be gay.

Hey, I wear feather boas, and I was a NAVY SEAL.

(Even though, technically speaking, he was NEVER a Navy Seal.)

Yeah, poligamy is totally gross. Remember, kids: never fuck a politician.

Nawww, it only counts if your partner’s other conquests are taking it in the standard location, which isn’t known to happen in the relationships between politicians and their consituents.
