Well Jenny McCarthy was in Playboy so doesn’t that count as being published?
And probably the credentialing authorities as well, if necessary.
Maybe it’s because I’m tired, but I think I’m missing something here. One of the two sponsors was Novo Nordisk, a pharmaceutical company. Doesn’t that feed into the anti-vaxx propaganda? Sorry if I’m missing something obvious.
That may work on some folks; I hope it does. But the anti vax crowd is already downplaying what happened to the boy in Oregon, claiming that if the parents had allowed the wound to bleed a bit and be exposed to oxygen instead of closing it up, the kid would have been fine.
A Certain Family Member had already said this a while back on an FB page:
" I had a family member freak out on me about refusing the Tdap because “what about tetanus?” They were speechless after I explained how the vaccine is useless for recent cuts. They glazed over when I started in about how it can’t survive if exposed to oxygen (meaning active bleeding or washing with water)…Its anaerobic, so if it’s a cut that bleeds you’re at a much lower risk than if it doesn’t bleed. Diabetics should have more caution because of this but the average person doesn’t have that risk factor…It needs the object that you cut yourself with to be deprived of oxygen (buried under the dirt) and also the cut/puncture to be lacking in oxygen as well. Blood naturally carries oxygen to the cells so that’s how it helps prevent infection, along with water (oxygen rich) will help avoid the spores from producing the toxin. But in the event that it’s contracted an antitoxin would be more appropriate than the vaccine."
And then there’s this page and a warning about the Horrible Fate that could befall you if you get the tetanus vax:
I’m telling you, there is no way to reach these people. No freaking way. They know better than the doctors and nurses (“they’re all about the money!”), and you cannot convince them otherwise.
Anti-vaxxers are conspiracy theory nutjobs. That’s all they are. They buy into the theory because they want to. Quiz them about any other nutjob conspiracy nonsense and you’ll find out they buy into one or more of those, too. They are willfully, intentionally, actively, and proudly stupid. It is not ignorance at play here. If it were ignorance, education and exposure to facts and reason would work. It is stupidity. They are fucking stupid. And they’re dangerously fucking stupid. Here’s how dangerous they are: one of the leading proponents of the most asinine CT is now the fucking president of the United States of America. It’s not going to get better with those idiots.
Novo Nordisk Foundation had no access to the planning, designing, or review of the study, all the information came from the National Health Service.
The qualifications of the anti-vax supporters don’t include . . . well, anyone. Jenny McCarthy, and Dr. Wakefield are it. Dr. Wakefield’s co-researchers have all withdrawn their support. Jenny McCarthy has at least shut up. She should be publicly discussing the error of her information, but hey, that ain’t happening.
Tris
The fine print matters.
Oh, I agree with you, but the anti-vaxx mob would discount any study sponsored by any pharmaceutical company.
Novo Nordisk is not a pharmaceutical company. The foundation owns a drug company, a biotech company and has shares in many other companies (according to Wikipedia), while awarding grants for studies in a variety of areas.
Of course, that’s plenty for conspiracy theorists to grind their teeth about.
In other news from the bizarre world of antivaxers, the group Age of Autism has published an open letter to Washington state legislators, urging them to veto a bill that would ban “philosophical” exemptions to vaccination. The letter refers to vaccination as “medical rape”.
Excerpt:
“Rape is when someone uses force to penetrate another against their will. The force can be physical, coercion or abuse of authority. If SB5841 passes, many of us will be saying NO, we will try to get away from our assailant, but because of abuse of authority and coercion we will be medically penetrated anyway.”
If it’s not a pharmaceutical company, why does the very first sentence of the Wikipedia article about it say, “Novo Nordisk A/S is a Danish multinational pharmaceutical company headquartered in Bagsværd, Denmark, with production facilities in eight countries, and affiliates or offices in 75 countries.”
Because,
CMC fnord!
The suggestion was that the anti-vaccine crowd would discount a study sponsored by a pharmaceutical company. Do you think they’re going to believe a study sponsored by a foundation that owns a pharmaceutical company?
Do you honestly believe the ‘anti-vaccine crowd’ is going to accept anything that goes against their narrative?
I mean if Andrew Wakefield himself were to say he got it all wrong that would simply be proof that ‘they’ got to him!
CMC fnord!
Well, the family member in question is also a fan of one of the Q Anon Facebook pages, so what you said above makes perfect sense.
All I can say at this point is that if anything ever happened to those unvaccinated kids, my niece’s kids, I would not forgive .
Q Anon? Dare I ask?
Also,
The latter one is the page on Facebook that the family member likes.
“newfags”? WTF?
It’s a *chan thing. Everybody is some sort of fag.
That’s the general level of discourse on most *chans.
That’s simply moronic. I guess I should expect no better.
For a full dose of Qrazy, take a look at this:
How long before we see anti-vax terrorism?
