Health “professions” known for antivaccination attitudes also harbor practitioners who make false claims about coronavirus prevention/treatment.
Yeah, Allison Patton is a piece of shit piece of work.
Just dropped by to say that children are not the ones they are primarily putting at risk these days.
Followup: another antivax naturopath doing her best to spread coronavirus contagion.
So, apparently there is some new office in HHS that will ban all vaccine mandates?
Found this on Facebook from a Christian work acquaintance. She is excited about I think because “religious freedom”.
I damn near threw a tantrum myself last night when I saw another FB “They’re taking away our freedoms!” BS post, yet again from my brother-in-law back in ol’ Dixie. This one was a shared post whining about some new bill regarding gun control. The kicker in the post was “While we’re being distracted by COVID-19”.
Distracted? Distracted? What the fuck do you mean “distracted”?
This pandemic is not a distraction. Hell, I wish the piece of shit in the White House now would ignore all the actual distractions and manage for once in his shit-spewing life to do his damn job competently.
Have you read that outfit’s home page? Here’s some fun, as in nauseating, stuff:
There’s more bullshit on that page, all of it gushing over how awesome the damn dirty lying sack of dung in the White House is and how awful the Dems are.
Humanity hurtles apace towards a new dark age.
Someone on my Facebook feed shared the “Plandemic” video. A number of people replied with debunking links… and the person who shared the video has now stated they agree the Plandemic video was debunked.
It’s a damn miracle. It’s literally the first time I’ve ever seen someone share something like that and subsequently agree it was proven wrong.
You’re right, it’s stunning. Next, dogs will lie down with cats.
I’ve been tracking (and occasionally responding) to online commentary about “Plandemic” and companion book by the same discredited, conspiracy-promoting scientist. Two of my favorite 5-star reviews of the book on Amazon:
“You can’t discredit someone sharing her experience. It’s her experience! Either read the book or keep quiet”
and
“Can’t put it down! There has to be truth in this! There is no way someone could fabricate this much info. Wake up America!”
You could present these reviewers with chapter and verse on how unreliable and nutty Mikovits is, and they’d either ignore you or scream that you’re a Pharma Shill. That seems to hold true for the vast majority of her followers.
The obvious rebuttal to this:
President Trump made 18,000 false or misleading claims in 1,170 days
(Now a month out of date, does not include recommendation to inject bleach.)
There’s also the contingent that fears that a mandated covid-19 vaccine will contain something that will track all of us.
Remember when Sen. Rand Paul declared that mandatory vaccination is wrong because “the state doesn’t own your children, parents own the children”?
That’s just been echoed in the dispute over mandatory wearing of masks to combat the spread of Covid-19. A group of moms protesting an impending Volusia County (FL) school board policy mandating masks was removed from the meeting - for refusing to wear masks.
““Masks should never be mandated because our children are not the property of the government. They are not the property of the school board. They are not the property of the district. We own our own children,” said Rachael Cohen.”
That’s right, Mama. Kids are things that parents own and can be handled or disposed of as their parents see fit. It’s the Libertarian Way.*
*I hope Rachael Cohen is not related to Libertarian Party vice-presidential candidate Spike Cohen. It’d be cool to one day have Spike Cohen ascend to the presidency.
I’m very concerned about the anti-science climate in this nation. Because social media reaches so far, the ignorant minority can scream 24/7 that their bullshit is true, and they will get people to believe it simply because they are constantly hearing it.
I OWN my daughter? (Or OWNED, since she’s an adult now.) Does this mean it would have been okay for me to sell her before she turned eighteen?
" Measles deaths worldwide swelled to their highest level in 23 years last year, according to a report released Thursday, a stunning rise for a vaccine-preventable disease and one that public health experts fear could grow as the coronavirus pandemic continues to disrupt immunization and detection efforts.
The global death tally for 2019 — 207,500 — was 50 percent higher than just three years earlier, according to the analysis, released jointly by the World Health Organization and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. No measles deaths were reported in the United States, but measles cases in the country hit a record annual high of 1,282 across 31 states, the most since 1992, according to figures updated earlier this month. As recently as 2012, the U.S. case number was 55.
Public health experts said the soaring numbers are the consequence of years of insufficient vaccination coverage."
Here is the full report:
A “rising star” of the antivaccine movement has had his medical license suspended by the Oregon Medical Board. Board regulations allow such action prior to a hearing, when a physician is considered an “immediate danger to the public”.
The Board cited multiple examples of improper treatment of children by Dr. Paul Thomas, along with reports that he bullied parents so they’d accept his reduced vaccine schedule.
The case involving an unvaccinated child who developed a life-threatening case of tetanus is especially noteworthy.
Just proof that the members of the Oregon Medical Board are in the pocket of BigPharma and Sleepy Joe Paedophile!
It’s like goddamn Whack-A-Mole dealing with this stuff. Tomorrow, the lead witness at a hearing of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs committee dealing with coronavirus vaccination and hydroxychloroquine*) is going to be Dr. Jane Orient. Orient is a longtime antivaxer and generalized nutcase.
“…during the 2016 election cycle she promoted the myth being spread at the time by a number of pro-Trump sources that Hillary Clinton had Parkinson’s disease and peddled antivaccine conspiracy theories around Zika virus. She’s also on record as denying the very concept of a scientific consensus about anything. Since the pandemic hit, she and AAPS have hopped aboard the COVID-19 denying quackery grift train, with Dr. Orient denying that masks work to slow the spread of the disease while embracing unproven Trump-promoted “cures” like hydroxychloroquine and seeking to blame the rapid spread of COVID-19 on illegal immigrants.”
As you’d expect, it’s the Republican senator chairing the committee (Ron Johnson, R-Dark Side of the Moon) who invited this loon to speak.
*rather broad mandate that committee has.
Thought I would bump this thread to share a report from December 2020 from the Center for Countering Digital Hate [warning:pdf] about the coordinated Anti-Vaxx playbook, and how anti-vaxxers are using the COVID crisis to their advantage. Some select quotes:
These malignant actors have developed their strategic understanding over years of advocacy and practice. Their strategy is simple. Exploit social media algorithms’ predilection for controversial and engaging content to hammer home three key messages - Covid isn’t dangerous; vaccines are dangerous; and mistrust of doctors, scientists and public health authorities. Despite the variety of styles, tones and themes employed by the anti-vaccine movement, every meme they share is in service to one of these three messages.
A number of speakers at the NVIC conference presented the Covid pandemic as an historic opportunity to popularise anti-vaccine sentiment. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. told activists listening to the conference “All of the truths that we’ve been trying to broadcast for many, many years. There are people hearing it and the impact and those seeds are landing on very fertile ground.” The disgraced physician Andrew Wakefield echoed these sentiments, saying “The population who are aware of these issues has grown dramatically in the face of coronavirus, Covid-19. It is now an issue for discussion by everyone.” Other anti-vaxxers such as Sherri Tenpenny highlighted the Covid pandemic as an opportunity to build a wider movement with campaigners against masks and lockdowns: “We need everyone to get politically active, get behind this cause, get behind Hugs Over Masks, get behind MAD, Mothers Against Distancing, get behind the NVIC, the National Vaccine Information Center, get behind the things that we’re doing over at vaxxter.com, and Courses for Mastery, and our boot camp course that open enrollment is coming up again, the end of September. All the things that we’re doing, we need all hands on deck.
They literally had a conference to plan how to spread deadly misinformation that will result in more people dying and reduced herd immunity due to ignorant fucks believing their nonsense and not getting vaccinated. Fuck all of these fuckers. They are basically mass murderers. I hope every single one of them gets COVID and dies a horrible death.
