Looks like the trip to Calgary is off. Colorado has updated their rules so that anyone over 6 months old can get a Covid vaccine.
Previously the Colorado rules governing vaccination at pharmacies basically said, “follow the federal rules,” so when the federal rules vanished the pharmacy companies decided to halt non-prescription covid vaccinations. This change in rules adds appropriate state level rules for seasonal vaccines.
Colorado is far from Florida, so might not be the best first choice, but is centrally located with a major airport for people who need to travel for vaccines.
Yeah, I mentioned in a QZ zone post that there were issues where Colorado wasn’t at the time (last week, but my post was 2 days ago) wasn’t able to get you a vaccine without a prescription, and working with my PCP to get one. AFAIK though, it’s the same restrictions - if you’re under 65 you need to have one or more of the “qualifying” characteristics or risks to get one, and of course, who knows how this is going to fall out with my healthcare provider. But a lot better chance today than yesterday!
The way the article describes it, the new Colorado directive creates a “standing prescription” for everyone over 6 months old. I don’t know if that’s true, that’s just what I think it says. The directive doesn’t direct insurance to pay for it, though.
Health insurance companies would be wise to continue to cover the COVID shots, tho, as they are probably WAY cheaper than covering people in the hospital and on ventilators.
A lot of insurance plans offer wellness incentives -discounts on monthly premiums- to get your yearly physical, vaccines, stop smoking, etc., etc. Insurance companies want people to vaccinate.
Talk is cheap. Cassidy won’t do anything concrete to upset his MAGA masters.
But by offending antivaxers’ cult leader, he’s angered Junior’s supporters (comments on his Twitter account are brutal), while doing little to gain back respect of those who’ve held him in contempt for enabling Junior’s takeover of public health.
A popular antivax meme refers to a regional health insurer, which has offered financial incentives to physicians who get a set percentage of their patients vaccinated. Antivaxers rage that this is “bribery”, not comprehending that insurers save money when they don’t have to make payouts to people sick with vaccine-preventable diseases.
Me: I’ve scheduled us vaccines for Friday to make RFK jr angry.
Kid: who’s RFK jr?
Me: he’s in charge of health for the country and he is anti-vax.
Kid: what the fuck?
Grandma: exactly!
I was curious about the measles vaccination rate in Canada, and apparently it’s down. That drop is attributed to the COVID period, which is the reason often given for the drop in the USA, too.
“Regional variations” exist in both nations, as might be expected.
