Trump’s use of Fortunate Son recently, reminded me of another song. I know what it is, but it’s just not coming to me now. The plot is there’s this young man from a fortunate background who goes to war. I think he might be a Captain, but I don’t remember. He gets killed at the end. English band? '60s?
Lucky Man, by Emerson, Lake & Palmer?
Stab in the dark …
Billy Don’t Be A Hero ?
This one?
Captain Walker didn’t come home
His unborn child will never know him
We believe him missing with a number of men
Don’t expect to see him again
He’s believed to be missing with a number of men
Don’t expect to see him again
Roger Waters with Pink Floyd has a number of anti-war songs dealing with the death of his father.
Neither of those.
I’ve remembered: Lucky Man, by Emerson, Lake & Palmer.
Crikey, I skimmed right over that post! Where’s the :smack: smiley?

Nitpick. The name of the song is “For What it’s Worth.”
I’m not sure I’d go as far as to call it an explicitly “ANTI”-war song. It could be interpreted as implying that the subject of the song was heroic for sacrificing his life for his country, despite coming from a background of wealth and privilege - that the listener is initially led to think that the chorus of “what a lucky man he was” is in reference to his material possessions, but in closing, its true meaning is that he was lucky to give his life for his country - the most honorable type of luck. Although “luck” isn’t exactly what most people would say in that situation - probably “destiny”.
Or maybe it’s a simpler concept - the idea that he may have been lucky in life up until the point where he got killed, at which point the chorus is supposed to take on an ironic meaning.
I’ve always thought it was a great song but that the synthesizer solo at the end greatly detracted from it.

I thought it was “known” that Lucky Man was about JFK.
It works the same if that’s just bunkum, though.
