Any advanced buzz on "Underworld"?

I’ve seen the previews, and it looks like it could be good. I mean, I like vampire movies, I like werewolf movies, and I loved The Matrix (from which, based on the previews, the style of the movie seems to borrow heavily). But will it be the successful blending of multiple genres that I hope it will be, or just yet another unoriginal hack job?

Has anybody seen a test screening? Is there more info out there other than the previews? What do people think?

A question to anyone who knows anything about the movie; is the ENTIRE MOVIE shot in blue and black? The previews have no colors of any kind except blue, grey, and black. Even the gunfire has no yellow in it. Wouldn’t it hurt your eyes to watch a whole movie like that?

The poster for the movie looks very much like the ads for the failed TV show Birds of Prey.

In one scene in a commercial there is some red. Other than that, I don’t know, but I doubt it.

Aside from advance screening reviews, remember that the period between, say, the third weekend of August and the end of September is one of Hollywood’s dumping grounds for movies it doesn’t expect to do very well. The kids are going back to school, it’s too early for Oscar-buzz movies, etc. Hence, we get the long-on-the-shelf crap like Marci X and The Order, plus lame comedies like Dickie Roberts, movies Hollywood throws into the cinema to scrape out a couple of extra million before they get relegated to the video ghetto.

Based on that alone, I’m keeping my expectations for Underworld low. The actual buzz is mixed, but the period does not bode well. That’s too bad, because the concept has promise, and besides Kate Beckinsale is on my Top Five Smokin’ Hot Babes list, and it would be nice to see her get a breakout hit.

However, again, the mid-September release is not a good sign.

I’ll see it, just because I love Matrix/ Blade/ Hong Kong-style action movies. I hear there is some sort of love story as well, but the gunplay in the trailers were enough to hook me.
