Orange Is The New Black is a [heavily fictionalized] look at life inside a minimum-security women’s prison. All of the media I’ve been exposed to regarding men in prison focuses on the maximum-security end of things. Are there any stories about men in minimum security that you know of? I’d love to know what goes on in there.
Many modern prisons have various levels of security, from minimum to maximum. So some of the pop culture stuff you see shows different levels (e.g., Arrested Development).
Ear Hustle is a terrific podcast about San Quentin, a facility that includes minimum security buildings.
Probably no help at all, but there was a sit-com in 1975 called, “On the Rocks.” Based on a British show called, “Porridge,” it got good reviews, but only one season (24 eps) and gone. Starred Rick Hurst–you may remember him from a series of commercials where he was on the wrong side of someone’s medicine cabinet mirror.
The Right Guard ad you’re referring to starred the great Chuck McCann, not Rick Hurst.
I’ll be dipped; I did not remember that being Right Guard, thought it was shaving cream in a can. Next you’ll tell me Hurst was on, “Dukes of Hazzard.”
Goodfellas wasn’t “about” a minimum-security prison, but did feature one for a few minutes. Doonesbury had a couple of strips featuring Mark’s dad in a Club Fed.
