Any chance of bumping edit time to 10 minutes?

I’d say it’s worth a try. I haven’t had any issues with the five-minute limit myself but if others have, let’s give it a shot. So far, I haven’t seen any of the problems the board staff claimed were the reasons for keeping the edit feature turned off so there’s no real reason to keep the edit window so short.

I haven’t been affected by the time limit yet, but only because I haven’t attempted to make very many edits. I do think the number of hangs seems to have gone down, but they still occasionally happen. Given that, I agree that the time limit should be increased.

Given that mortals can’t suppress that “last edited” note and it’s easy enough to compare time stamps, even if you increased the limit significantly it would still be hard for someone to convincingly “cheat” and try to make someone else look like an idiot by editing a message to say something different from what was originally said.

Agreed, but is there a REAL need for it?
I really don’t see a need to increase the 5-minute edit just to change “peace” or “peice” to “piece.”

A point of reference would be how much were you affected when editing wasn’t allowed. It wouldn’t be more than that.

No. We now have a feature that sometimes doesn’t work (because timeouts cut into the 5 minute limit). That is quite different from not having the feature at all. So, the time before we were able to edit is irrelevant to the discussion.

Argh, the server crashed recently preventing an edit in my 6th minute – seriously.

I’m in favor of a bump to 10 minutes.

Yeah Fine OK
(Iwas being sarcastic in the post you replied to…nay, I was being purposely obtuse, and even editted my post to prove my point.

Anyway, it isn’t up to me (thank God). TPTB will decide what is best in the end.

And? I just used your post as a springboard for my point.

And why the hell are you so hell-bent against it? As of my last post, a quarter of the responses in this thread are your’s.

I’m not against it…I just see no reason for it (it slows the board down, for one thing)

Heck, let it happen, I say.
It may “spice” things up, if it really is as bad as the admins think it will be.

Unless you can show me where it says “limit 5 minutes except for timeouts”, I’d say your claim that the feature doesn’t work is unjustified.

I don’t know anything about the programming involved, but I’d guess taking the timeouts into account is much more difficult than just comparing the times.

The feature is the ability to correct our posts within a short interval of time after posting. The timeouts cause it to sometimes be impossible to make those corrections. Hence, my claim the the feature sometimes doesn’t work is correct. I never suggested that the feature was completely nonfunctional.

You’re almost certainly correct. That’s one of the reasons for several people suggesting that the editing time be increased.
