Any City Designer or Campaign Cartographer users out there?

I could use some help. I have recently picked up Campaign Cartographer 3 & City Designer Pro. Despite their very crappy update and compatibility software based on Microsoft .net 1.1 framework with hotfix, I have it all working now.

I am fumbling my why through the controls and I am looking for hints, techniques and tricks to make things work better and quicker.

In the past, my maps, towns and dungeons have all been hand drawn or drawn in MS Paint. I have made some excellent MS Paint maps, but it is very time consuming. One minor example here.

I was hoping to get good enough at CD Pro to seriously speed up design time.

I am in particular having problems with the grid; I continually grab it by mistake. Is there a good way to make that a background object that I don’t have to worry about?

Anyone?

A building with only one level of floors is a single storey building. That’s all I’ve got.

I presume that you have drawn a grid in, and while attempting to lasso other objects, accidentally grab the grid?

If so, my suggestion would be to use the Grid snap feature (that shows up as little dots in a grid pattern). 'Fraid that’s the only way I’ve used grids, and don’t have any other help for you.

Maybe place the grid on a Layer by itself, and then Freeze that Layer?

However, I suggest going over to the profantasy website, and contacting them through Technical Support. Last time I did that, they replied within the day, and when they couldn’t diagnose by e-mail, had me send them my map and quickly figured out what was wrong.

(don’t go crazy Fractalizing the coastline of a big map, by the way; it freezes everything else up)

I have been using it off and on (Mostly off these days :() since version one. Believe me, it used to be much harder to use. The best thing I can recommend for you to get very good advice is signing up with the CC2 group at Yahoo. (If you don’t have a yahoo ID to sign up there, or don’t want to get one, you can also sign up here.) A lot of very good users, and Profantasy employees, are there daily.

I will try out the communities, I just had hopes there might be a power user here on the Dope.

Thanks, I have tried the Profantasy web site and tech support for my install problems. They were not at all helpful.

I want to try your freeze the layer idea. This sounds like it should work.

Thank you,
Jim
