Gosh, I have had the absolute worst weekend when it comes to computers. I have had so many problems, some of which I shared on here. Sorry to push it again, but I’d like to get this resolved if you could. Please be nice.
I have a HP Pavillion 6636. Very standard computer.
Anyway, because of Myst III(long story) I recently downloaded a new driver for my computer. It is called Crystal WDM Audio Codec. I got the driver from the HP.com site, where it was specifialy listed for my computer.
After installing it the first time, I had sound but it was set to the loudest volume possible. I could not bring down the volume with the normal controls, but could bring it down with WinAmp(2% volume was normal instead of 50%).
I re-installed the driver and now, there is no sound. When I try to play an midi, it says “MMsystem003 Driver Not Enabled” and when I play a MP3, it says, “MMsystem032 Specific format cannot be translated or supported. See Capabilities function.”
This is very odd. I tried activating the driver by searching for the best driver on the hard drive, but this did not work. Everywhere on the computer, it says the driver was succesfuly installed, but when I examine what sound card it is using, it says, “use any available” instead of Crystal Audio. If I pull down the menu, Crystal Audio is not there.
I’m really getting tired of all this. Actually, I wouldn’t mind just going back to the original driver that came with the PC. But I don’t know where that is and I’d kinda like to get this one working(since it was DESIGNED for my line of computer).
Thankyou for your help and patience.
