I love to crochet too. I make a lot of baby sweater and bonnet sets to sell of give away as gifts.
Last Chirstmas I was hired to make 9 childrens sweaters for a woman that my husband works with.
Right now, I’m working some kitchen angels, thay are little angels that are towel holders and some really cute dolls.
The only type of afghan I like to make are the ones with the graphs, it seems more interesting to me. My next project will be an afghan with the U.S.M.C. mascot, Chester on it.
I do a lot of needlework. Right now I’m crocheting a hood for myself, and working on a cross-stitch picture for my mother’s birthday. I might also do some granny square slippers for my parents, for Christmas.
I used to know how to tat, but it was a LOOOONG time ago, and it didn’t seem very rewarding to me.
Pupshaw, doing piecemeal things are really nice. You start and make identical patterned pieces and then later sew them all together.
I found the coolest pattern for a hat and scarf. Check it out: Patriotic Crochet Flag Hat & Scarf
After the afghan, I’m making 'em… And if it’s truly an easy project, I’ll make a couple more sets for my friends.
Wow, that is really odd. I just noticed that my number of posts says 2 above but there are actually currently 3 in this thread. This would make 4.
I crochet and knit, but crochet is by far my favorite. I have an afghan that I’ve been working on for a couple of years now. It’s made to fit the queen size bed of an old roommate. I was making it for her for Christmas, but then the relationship went sour and I haven’t been able to disassociate the afghan from her.
I second whoever said to take them to the women’s shelter. They love afghans and children’s clothes too.
I love crocheting! I mostly do afghans, but may try a hat or mittens this year. Does anyone have a good pattern for mittens, actually? I’m looking for nice, thick ones that you can unbutton at the halfway point so you can use your fingers without taking them off. Anyone? I’d be much obliged!
The first afghan I ever made is still around, only it fell apart when the friend I gave it to washed it a few times. Now it’s the dog’s yarn-bed. Because it was the first one I ever did (and because we smoked a lot of weed at the time) this thing came out 28 feet long and 3 feet wide! One day, after a whole winter of happily crocheting in my comfy chair my friend asked when it would be done. It suddenly occured to me that it had never occured to me. So we laid it out and almost wet ourselves when it made it across two rooms!
At the moment, I’m making some filet crochet shelf edging for the built-in china cabinet. It’ll give it a nice old-timey look. The best thing I ever made was a set of filet crochet valances with kitties on them. I actually impressed myself with those. In the summer I do filet, and as soon as it starts to get cold, I start another afghan.
I’m also about to get sidetracked on an embroidery bender. I need to finish the edging first, but I got a bunch of cool 1940’s kitchen tranfers from eBay, so everyone’s getting retro napkins and kitchen towels this year.
Also, I second Ames for the cheapest yarn ever. And you can buy those gigantic skeins!
I have been working on a scarf - very basic stitch I taught myself, also in the third grade - from hair I saved from my Chow. Unfortunately I have only two skeins and the wonderful woman who spun them for me got a brain tumor, so I don’t know if I’ll be getting any more. I have tons of hair saved - does anyone spin?
I’m suprised Mistress Persephone hasn’t stepped in here yet.
She started a thread like this a while back and when I posted to that one I was working on a huge Irish flag blanket for a friend of mine.
Well, after two years I am still working on that darn blanket. By the time I get finished with it it will be11x7 ft.
He said he wanted it big enough to wrap up in!
Anybody wanting to swap snowflake patterns I have got bunches of them. I think this year I might tackle the snowflake garland.
I’ve never knitted but I can tat.
Oh, and does anybody have a pattern for one of those long sweaters?
You know the ones that were popular IIRC in the 70’s but came back a few years ago? I would rather make one than spend upwards of $30 or so.
