I am, hence my username. Hehehe.Fess Parker, plays Daniel Boone great. The whole cast is great!
I was shocked to learn that the little blonde haired kid, Israel was in real life tortured to death by Indians.
Are you serious? Wow that’s sad. I knew that happened to him.
Sorry, I meant to say, I NEVER knew about it.
No he wasn’t.
Ed Ames.
Johnny Carson’s The Tonight Show.
Tomahawk throwing.
Yikes! Yowzer!
“I didn’t even know you were Jewish.”
I like how Ed started over to get the tomahawk and Johnny caught him by the arm to stop him - “No you’re not. You’re leaving it right where it’s at” he seemed to be saying.
Ed Ames was also a member of a fairly popular singing quartet, The Ames Brothers.
I am very glad to be mistaken.
Thanks!
Boone was a good series, whatever the historical inaccuracies. I wonder if my attitude would change if I watched it now, almost 50 years later.
Earworm time:
Daniel Boone was a man
Was a BIIIIG man…
It’s on “MeTV” in the morning. I’ve caught a few episodes…they’re as dated as you would imagine, but still fun to watch. Funny that the opening sequence has DB throwing a tomahawk and splitting a tree in two.
As far a Fess Parker goes, I’m more of a Davy Crockett fan, but his Boone and Crockett characters are pretty much interchangeable.
I noticed a couple of things.

That is why when I was small I believed Boone and Crockett to be contemporaries.
That and the hat.
Right. That was James Boone, the eldest child.
And thanks to you alson, Skywatcher.
Man, I thought I was tuning in Davy Crockett!
Some time last year, I caught a bit of “Bat Masterson.” T’weren’t all that bad.
Innocent joys of our youth! I liked the show – I was very taken with Ed Ames’ portrayal of Mingo, Boone’s Indian partner. (Unless I’m mistaking Boone for Crockett? Which show had Mingo? Google says Boone! Whew!)
The show led me to read the Deerslayer novels by Fennimore Cooper – nah! The TV show was much better! (Although if you want a good “frontier” novel in the Cooper mold, you can’t beat “The Hidden Children” by Robert W. Chambers. It’s everything that Cooper ought to have been!)
TV’s Boone might not stand up all too well today; it was (as all things are) a product of its time. It was aimed at a young, not terribly sophisticated audience, and put forward simple frontier virtues: loyalty, patriotism (but not too much!) personal skill and responsibility, forgiveness, and so on. It was “Boy Scout” stuff, and there’s a lot to be said for that.
Davy Crockett’s sidekick George Russell was played by Buddy Ebsen.
