Wow. They couldn’t have gotten that more right if they had written it yesterday.
By the way, for those who think Bush is losing support of Americans:
American support for war increases.
Seventy one percent of Americans favor a war without the U.N., as long as ‘some’ allies join (i.e. the ones Bush has now). An astounding 60% support a war even if the U.S. goes it alone.
Oh, and directly on OP, there’s this:
These are still historically high levels of support for a president, which is astonishing considering the rough shape the economy and world situation is in. In comparison, at this point in his presidency, Bill Clinton only had a 43% approval rating.
I can only conclude that those of you who think Bush is doomed in the next election just aren’t playing with a full deck.
This is just my two cents, and its probably worth less than that.
The main problem with this debate lies in the fact that we, the U.S. constituency, are somehow magically locked into the notion that EITHER of the aforementioned parties, or their candidates, are really interested in our welfare.
Call me crazy, but I personally do not see eye to eye with either party anymore. The democrats no longer serve their original purpose. Deep examination into the extreme left wing of the party will clearly show that DEMOCRACY is not their cup of tea. SOCIALISM is more up their alley. You can claim that you are for a cause all you want to, but handing out my hard earned money to special interest groups who want to take it and rewrite the basic premises of American freedom does not sit well with me. Old hippies and Hollywood fruitloops who feel guilty because they are rich don’t impress me in the least. I came from a relatively poor Southern home, and worked my way through college without lots of help because I didn’t qualify as a minority.
Republicans are what they have always been: Wealthy businessmen with a desire to keep their own money and make it easier for THEMSELVES and THEIR CRONIES make more. Centralize banking and give out lots of corporate welfare. Let the wealth “trickle down” to the poor schmucks who fuel their corporate empire with sweat and blood. They are getting the mass of votes today by upholding their CONSERVATIVE values, which most normal people also hold. Poor conservative people are afraid to vote for the Democrats, so they will vote for the lesser moral evil.
The two-party system needs to be shitcanned. I would love to vote for a Libertarian, but the rest of the sheep in this nation would only nullify my vote by following along in their stalls like they were in line for a ride at Six Flags! All a third party candidate would do on a national scene is split the Republican vote and put another (^#(( democrat in office. Hail to the Chief!!!
Benwa
Amen Sam! They are buying into the Dems doom & gloom forecast that has been rerun over and over since the election–which some on this board just cannot get over. If Clinton/Gore did such a fine job, Gored should have waltzed right into the Oval office, but he could not even win his own home state; that should tell you all something???
One disagreement. Just the other day, I read or heard that Bill Frist had re-affirmed what he said when he first ran for the Senate. He will serve no more than 2 terms. So, he plans to leave the Senate no later than 2006, even though he’s majority leader.
I think it’s too early to tell – politics and public opinion are fickle, and fortunes can change rapidly in either direction. Add to that the Democrats’ inability to show any leadership or backbone, and at the moment there’s little challenge to Bush.
Americans have also been supportive of the US bombing other countries far away, especially when it looks like US losses will be minimal. However, should Saddam somehow inflict serious losses (as with the hypothetical cases that he sets off chemical weapons in the southern cities as some have predicted, or that urban fighting gets nasty (as it did in Mogadishu)), you’ll see a heavy backlash. Bush has effectively promised a quick and painless war (from the US standpoint). If he delivers one, it’ll be smooth sailing. If it gets messy, however, look for those support numbers to fall sharply.
Sure, it’s too early to tell. My argument is with those in this thread who are already predicting a massive Bush loss. They’re just not dealing with reality. If the election were held today, Bush would win.
