In thinking about the whole “creationism vs evolution” debate, I got to wondering if any company out there makes kits which allow kids to witness evolution in action. We know that microbes can become resistant to antibiotics relatively quickly if misused (which, of course, is evolution in action), so it seems to me that it ought to be possible for someone to make a kit where in a relatively short period of time (say a few weeks) where kids could, for example, dump a chemical (obviously you wouldn’t want to use antibiotics) into a petri dish of simple organisms (like microbes or flatworms) that kills a portion of them, but the rest develop an immunity to it. I realize that this wouldn’t shut up the hardcore nutjobs who deny evolution in any and all forms, but it would provide a concrete example for most people, rather than simply being something talked about in textbooks.
