I never could get into Magic. In fact, I almost didn’t get into this game, but after watching my friends play a few rounds I begged someone to lend me a deck.
I’ve been hooked ever since.
I moved away last year, and now I have no one to play with. Yeah, well, anyway, I’ve never known it to be a popular game. Usually I meet the RPG players who play with Vampire or Werewolf, but even though I went through two campaigns I never liked that either.
The card game is beautiful. It takes about 6 hours to play, which makes scheduling so, so easy. It retains some RPG elements through “theme” decks, and my friends and I had taken the idea of the “theme” deck pretty far, especially after bringing politics into it and siding with other players, Camarilla versus the Sabbat, etc.
And the horrid Caitiff deck…
At any rate, I’ve never wanted to go back to RPGing after playing such an engrossing card game. Anyone else out there play this puppy? Did you like it?
Back when I wheeled and dealed Magic cards to pay for my first year of college, I bought a complete set of Jyhad cards from a friend. Mint condition, $50. I told myself I’d sit on it for a year or so and resell it for a small profit.
I found it just about three months ago, and I was too depressed to even go check for a price. I doubt I could recoup my initial investment.
You were playing the Collectible Card Game speculation market and $50 made you depressed? I can only guess you weren’t one of those guys who bought 15 boxes of the Fallen Empires M:tG expansion or else you’d have jumped off a ledge by now
Re: Jyhad. Sorry, I used to know some guys who played it and actually bought a couple cards for the artwork (for all of 5 cents each), but never played it.
No, only 4 boxes of Fallen Empires. I dropped out of the market at that time, too (damned if I can recognize any set after that except for Ice Age) so it didn’t hurt me that much.
I wasn’t annoyed at the loss of money. Jyhad didn’t depreciate immediately like FE did - I could have sold over those years for the minor profit I wanted. Anyway, I guess on the upside, I’ve got a complete set in mint condition…
