I’ve cycled fifteen miles three days in a row. It includes many steep and/or long hill climbs some of which I am flat out until I get to the top.
I am thinking about doing this before work, so if I do it tomorrow I will have had one day of rest before doing it again. If All things work out I’ll do it the day after too… If I don’t do it before work I get two days a week to do it and that’s not enough.
I aim to do it about 5 days a week if there are no health drawbacks to it.
I heard that anaerobic excersise requires certain periods of rest otherwise it is both risky and pointless (no time for muscles to recover and grow bigger) Is the same true of aerobic?
If this fits under the heading of stuff I should ask qualified experts I don’t mind. I trust the opinion of dopers always.
I’ve done it before work and that works ok. I don’t get much sleep what with getting up earlier than usual but I get to sleep that bit earlier the night after for how much I’ve exerted myself.
Yes very dangerous.
You are in danger of increased cardiovascular health, lower resting heart rate, clothes that don’t fit, more energy, and better health all around.
Ride and enjoy.
The real risk is that soon you might realise that fifteen miles is only the first step. When you start doing centuries on the weekend, then you’ll regret it
You asked about anaerobic exercise. Aerobic exercise is exertion with breathing. Anaerobic exercise would be, what, without breathing?
The only exercise without breathing I ever heard about was sprinting. Allegedly, a hundred-meters sprinter is so busy she doesn’t have time to breathe. That’s about ten or eleven seconds. Beyond that, you’d have to breathe.
I believe that anaerobic exercise is where the body has run out of adequate oxygen sources and is forced to convert muscle and other tissue as a source of energy. I was told by my cardiologist to always keep my exercise routine (i.e., heart rate) in an aerobic mode. For me that means keeping my heart rate at or under 125.
