The title pretty much says it all. There are tons of movies/TV shows/games in which the protagonist “must stop the evil illuminati from doing evil plot X.” I understand that conspiracy theorists say that the pyramid on the dollar bill has to do with them. Frankly, I think its a myth. I’m just curious if there’s ever been any concrete evidence (NOT circumstantial) that they exist.

All fnords aside, there was a dude in Germany named Adam Weishaupt who founded a small secret society called the Bavarian Illuminati in, I believe, the late eighteenth century. I don’t know what his group was all about (most think it was simply a social club made up of people who happened to be prominent individuals, similar to the Freemasons) but the group did not appear to last very long. Some other groups sprouted in Europe and the US with “Illuminati” in their name, but none of them ever did anything noteworthy.
Vell first ve haf to decide vot vee are lookink for, yah? Unt the illuminati are a very powerful, very secretif organisation. So, zay would not allow any efidence of their existenz to remain extant. In fact, any zuch efidence would in a sense proof them to be something other than vot they are, zee?
Ergo, zee evidence ve vood expect to find is nothing, yah? And zis is EXACTLY vot ve find. Ergo, zee illuminati exist, and zee lack of efidence for their existenz is very good efidence of just how powerful and secret zey really are.
