Any genuinely outstanding vloggers?

The net has brought us an embarrassment of riches when it comes to writing and writing/cartooning; my opinion is that Allie Brosh (Hyperbole-and-a-half) is the queen. Brosh’s voice, her use of language, her ability to convey such deep, meaningful, yet truly hilarious truths… she has a delightful, absurdist, fiercely intelligent and sensitive view. I very rarely laugh out loud, and I have laughed so hard at Hyperbole that I have cried and gasped for air, more than once.

But there are definitely others who are really great, or have solid flashes of greatness. The Oatmeal is so prolific I think he dilutes himself, but he still hits it out of the park often enough. David Thorne is pretty amazing…and many more.

But I have not personally seen, that i recall, any YouTube performers/personalities that are achieving at those kind of levels. I have seen one-off videos that were extremely funny or otherwise entertaining, but among the people that I have seen who have made Youtube their “gig”, as it were, I have been surprised at how “meh” they are.

But the internet and Youtube are vast, I’m sure it’s just that I haven’t stumbled across anyone.

So do you know of any? Not “pretty funny”, but really top-drawer smart as hell people that crack you up or really entertain you on a fairly consistent basis. Regular people, not pros with websites. And not collectives. But individuals or perhaps duos.

I’m a little confused by this. Like, John and Hank Green are “pros with websites”, but they grew a giant franchise and business out of grainy low-budget vlogging.

John Green would be my answer, if he qualifies. I don’t like his brother Hank quite as much, but he’s cool too, and SciShow is good.

This isn’t a vlog, but it’s my favorite video by John – a review of True Skate. He somehow manages to make a 3 minute review of a shitty mobile game I would otherwise not care about into pure art:

(He also plays the FIFA 2016 video game on that channel, which is a game I am 0% interested in, but he mostly uses it as an excuse to tell stories about little characters he's made up or talk about important social issues).

This is their main channel:

Though I’m not sure if the average video (since they’re very frequently made) is that entertaining.

Casey Neistat

Also, by vloggers do you mean vloggers, or just video content creators in general? Because I have plenty more (and probably better) recommendations if you’re open to, say, reviewers.

Anyone who is doing something on camera, not animators or directors…people who do the writing and performing, overall.

I will check out the suggestions so far, thanks!

The Angry Video Game Nerd is pretty great…I think even if you don’t like video games, his character is good!

Since he got so good at making the AVGN stuff, the actor/director/producer Mike makes very nice looking other vlogs. You can check them out at http://cinemassacre.com/

My brother turned me onto Nerdwriter1 who is not only insightful and amusing but hecka dreamy.

I love his essays on paintings.

Coco. She vlogs in ASL, so I won’t post a link, but she’s a woman with Usher’s syndrome, who has lost enough vision to be considered legally blind, but can still sometimes talk about things she sees. She travels internationally, and vlogs about her travels. Mostly she talks about the places she’s been, but one in a while she slips in something regarding how well she was treated by hotel or airline staff. Usually she is treated pretty well, but every now and again she has problems.

She also answers comments when people ask questions. People sometimes ask about her travels, but usually people ask things about her experiences growing up, or what she will miss the most if she loses her sight entirely.

She’s really interesting.
