I know about Google docs. Sucks ass. Nuff said (just a bit better than nothing).
I am posting this because of my lack of success with hosting an Excel spreadsheet on Google. My spreadsheet is not all that complex but nevertheless on Google it is so basic I am missing all sorts of functionality from my spreadsheet.
So, are there any other hosting options? I want to be able to have it displayed in a web page and not just have the file up there. Multiple people need to use it and downloading the latest version, editing it and uploading the new version will lead to many problems.
So essentially something like Google Docs but more feature rich.
Have you tried looking at Office Live Workspace? I haven’t used it myself, though, so I don’t know how it would work out in practice for you.
ETA: Disclosure: I work at a large software company based in Redmond. However, I still honestly don’t know whether OLW would work for you, as I really haven’t used it myself.
I have now jumped through so many hoops I have given up. Not that it bothers me, computer geek (well, bugs me a bit), but the nightmare of telling the people I want to share it with that they must download this, then that, and oh yeah, the other thing, then go in Excel to edit it and make changes to your program there…etc.
No way it would be anything other than a nightmare to try. Thanks though…could have been cool if not for Microshaft getting their hooks in 20 different ways.
I have found both EditGrid and Zoho to be adequate on-line alternatives. EditGrid is much more robust but both are adequate. You need to try both to see which one has the exact features and functions you need.
