Any good weight loss resorts?

I have a serious sugar problem. The last time I tried to cut back on sugar was really, really difficult and I couldn’t do it (shame on me). So, I am looking for a good weight loss “resort”(plus I need to lose about 12 pounds) to kind of reset my body. I need a resort, as long as it is in the States, that will provide ample motivation. I read a couple of reviews already, and one resort actually had buffet breakfasts and lunches. Really? How can that possibly be healthy?Anyways, I need a personal approach where someone is waiting for me to show up. If I just get to choose from a couple of classes I’m afraid I won’t have the willpower to show up and I will have wasted a bunch of money. Also, is there someone to do the exercises for me? Just kidding. Any one have any suggestions?

Going away to a “special” place isn’t going to help make any long term changes that are necessary for significant sustained weight loss. I’ve seen no evidence that the body resets with weight loss. A weight loss vacation seems destined to fail in the long term.

Buffets can be perfectly fine for weight loss provided you understand how to make the proper choices and change your relationship with food.

This place has gotten great reviews:

Going to a resort can help you develop the habits you need to lose weight. But you have to remember that the weight is all coming back if you don’t keep up with it.

From your post, it sounds like you may not have a lot of self-motivation. You may want to look into getting a personal trainer. Many gyms have them or you can find places where that is all they do. The trainer will be a valuable ally in keeping you on track with your diet and exercise.

Come up with other exercise goals. Have you ever done a 10k or triathlon? Sign up for one. Don’t worry if you can’t do it now. You can do it with the right training. Join a local training group and you’ll be surrounded by people who will motivate you to stay on track. A great beginner triathlon is the Danskin Women’s Triathlon. See if there’s one in your area. Usually they have an associated training program.

Having long-term exercise goals makes it easier to regularly exercise. Exercising regularly makes it easier for you to stay on your diet. You’ll change the way you look at food.

When I say “reset” my body, what I mean is to get down to a lower sugar and salt intake. I used to be a bodybuilder but that as 25 years ago. When I would go off of all sugar and salt, it would take around 6 days, with the 3rd being the absolute worst. I don’t think I can do it now without a complete absence or lack of access to those products. The personal trainer is a good idea and I might try that locally. I think the setting of exercise goals is a good one too. Any hints on lowering sugar and salt intake? I have a husband and three kids, and simply have no will power to avoid snacks. Weight loss isn’t that much of a goal for me (I’m 5’6" and weigh 135) but I would like to feel better, which I think diet is partly to blame. And, yes, I have lost most of my willpower I had when I was younger.

I’m afraid I don’t know about weight loss resorts, but as a potential alternative… have you considered a “boot camp” style intensive fitness program that you could do locally? The programs here often have a diet program, coaches, etc. to make it a whole package. This was how I finally got myself into fitness – where I started to learn what I actually enjoyed doing about it, and got myself to not just trudge into the gym hating every minute of it.
