Any Health Information/Records Practioners here?

I’m thinking about this as the next step on my career path - it seems like kind of a natural fit for me. I was a Medical Laboratory Technologist, and now I’m an Administrative Professional, and I have an interest in records management.

So, anybody working in this field? Can I pick your brains about what the field is like, if you like it or not, what you like about it, what you don’t like, what kind of person you would recommend in this field, etc?

Oh, I forgot to ask, is there a lot of transcription work? Cause that really doesn’t sound like a good time to me, in spite of the rest of the job sounding pretty interesting.

As an HIV/AIDS Epidemiologist, I managed the database of cases for the state. Much of my job was collecting data through active case reporting, working with docs and other health workers to get them to report, investigating cases to find out things like race and risk, reviewing medical charts, etc. I also analyzed and presented the data orally and in reports and did some public education. But, surprisingly, I found the database management part of the job to be interesting and fun. So - if you like this kind of thing - you might also look into a “database manager” job with the Dept. of Health or a local hospital.

Interesting idea. I will have to do more research on this.
