I’ve “Marked a Forum as Read” only to come back to it a minute later and see that it has 15 new threads with 20 replies each. So how is it that the Teeming Millions found a thread so quickly in which they they were interested?
I usually (ha, look at my post count!) enter the Forum, see the newest thread titles and see if one is interesting. I then have to read it from the first post so that I’m not a putz when I respond. But it seems like I’m waaaay behind the curve.
Since I’m a Trekkie[sup]tm[/sup] too, I searched “Cafe Society” for “Enterprise” and found the appropriate threads to play in, but I don’t want to overwork the hamsters since that brings the Board to an even slower crawl.
Any ideas on finding threads of particular interests? (This was also a good way to see what posting a new thread entailed and check out using tags like [sup] and [/sup] along with smilies.
Welcome to the Boards Corner Case. You are experiencing the “so many threads, so little time” phenomenon. It’ll drive you crazy.
You have to become like a Zen master. You can’t worry about what you’re missing. Threads you don’t read are trees falling in a forest that you don’t hear.
For some practical advice, just stick to Fora that interest you. I myself pretty much stick with General Questions as the Forum I keep up. If I get a moment and nothing much is of interest, then I’ll take a look at Great Debates. Then I’ll scan the social fora (IMHO, MPSIMS, and the Pit; though it’s a stretch to call the Pit “social”).
If it’s early in the day before the hamsters are winded, I’ll use the “View New Posts” on the main page to see what topics are being discussed. A simple refresh after a minute or two will expose a whole new list of threads.
Bottom line though is this… it’s a Quixotic task to try and stay current. Eventually you’ll find a balance between satisfaction and frustration.
Good luck.
Oh. And bring flowers.
Oh, one more thing. You come to find out that every Thursday there is a Survivor thread in Cafe Society, and every Tuesday there is a 24 thread. (during regular season of course). If you’re interested, you keep an eye out for them, and subscribe to the thread.
Didn’t mention that did I? I subscribe to threads that I’m interested in, whether I post or not.
What I get worried about is when I’m browsing the SDMB, and I realize I’ve already read it!
Wow. What Algernon said. It’s so cool I don’t have anything else to say except yes and thank you!
