As a relatively new member, I wonder how do people look at this site? I started by simply going to the new posts page but lately I have been checking into the individual forums as I like seeing who and when the last posts were made.
So do you search by keyword, or is there some cool hidden feature I’m unaware of that will increase my fun with the board?
BTW is it a bad sign that I open a Word document which I use as a template regularly that looks like the Board so I can tab back and forth in the office w/o arousing suspicion ?
Or will it be when I no longer care what my boss thinks and start relying to theads in the middle of client meetings?
And how do you cover the uncontrollable snorts and laughter from your coworkers?
I stumbled onto the SDMB through Threadspotting, and now have the e-mail notification feature activated, so that all the threads I post to send me e-mail messages when there is new activity.
After I look at all those, I check the new posts page, and if nothing interests me, I go to individual forums, or the threads I have bookmarked (Limericks, cont’d is one of them).
I’ll be nice here. MikeG, since you’re new, in the middle towards the upper right, there should be a ‘Show threads in the last ___’. Set that for a week or so and you’ll find any number of threads.
If that doesn’t float your boat, go to the ‘search’ button above right and look up people and issues you find funny.
You’ll notice, pretty quickly, I might add, that new threads and responses come fast and furious througout the day around here.
After a while, you won’t get bored, you’ll end up pissed that you can’t keep up.
You know, I had this long post set all about whether you were deliberately trying to goad me or not, but the Preview ate it. I’ll take that as a sign and instead, I’ll disregard the comments with the knowledge that the written word can be easily misconstrued.
My thought on this is that maybe Chris, seeing the forum this was posted in, assumed that you were a newbie actually asking for advice, but you are also sort of sharing stuff and having a conversation also.
So I just did more MPSIMS types of posts here and Chris maybe misunderstood? Or did I? It is true that without tones of voice and facial expressions, it is easy to misconstrue.
